Default Increased Trojan Activity Or Not?

Of late I have found a marked increase in trojans being detected by my AV program in auto protect mode. The concerning thing is that they are being discovered in tried and true applications that have resided on my system for ages and survived many many full system scans.
Has there been a surge in the number of trojans or is it a surge in the number of false positives and if so why?
I am hoping that by posting here other members will share their recent experiences of increased viral traffic if any and we might get a handle on what is in fact happening. The latest I have found was today in my WinRadio Suite which is legit software and I have had for so many years I can't remember when I got it. My AV app returned 10 incidences of a trojan in one scan. Nothing is ever downloaded to that machine it simply monitors and records a radio freq at specified times although it does have an active wireless internet connection for updates and the like.
I hope we can work out what is happening

    Symantec/Norton.
WORTHLESS, better off with the trojans, yes I am serious.
Some legit apps contain stuff that looks like virus behavior, maybe the latest virus def. update is looking differently at this.

    Please Read below.
Get some real AV software like kaspersky, then you can trust what it is telling you.

Maintaining a watching brief at the moment. Haven't had a mysterious event since the one that prompted this thread. I'm sticking with this version of Symantec for the moment, it's one that is issued to employees of one of Australias leading companies for use on their personal laptops which are used to access the companies computers. It takes no prisoners and I like that. At the same time I still wonder if we are seeing an increase in trojans or an increase of false positives. I still believe that in the case of keygens and patches the software manufacturers are submitting them to AV manufacturers as trojans. I still wonder about the event that started the thread, it was on a system that has only an OS and three applications installed, one of which is the AV app, and only accesses the net for Windows and AV updates.

    Go figure

I am also using Nortons 2009...and I have used a lot of virus protection programs ...including NOD32...and kaspersky...I believe that they all write viruses and trojans to keep them selves in business.....that aside this Nortons is the best I have seen...even if it does sometimes have false readings

oh yes there is a definate increase in detection especially trying to steal identity stuff...My tip dont log onto banks and Paypal with the computer you download to...use another one
