Default Dreambox - Why are they so popular?

I am new to this and hence posting this question in the newbies section - I regularly notice that the Dreambox section is the most active. I have put 2 and 2 together but would like to understand why. Is there any articles on websites that spell it out? Thanks.

Up until a few months ago I was saying the same thing.

I did research through this forum plus others and generally on the internet.
After purchasing a couple of cheap boxes such as the DM500 I have found that it is a very flexible box that allows different images and configurations to run on it.

All good fun and best of all you learn much on the way.

No Dreamsat is a totally different box. Dreambox clones like the dm 500s sold by some forum members here, are what you should be looking at, as the original dm 500 units are no longer made by Dream Multimedia.

Dreamsat are not as versatile as Dreambox and you can do a lot more with the Dreambox

It has a large learning curve and could even take you 2-3hrs before you even get FTA. Can also be very rewarding

A humax is still better, to learn about Sat.

Bottom line...if you want to learn about Sat, get a humax.

If you want to play with linux and learn other non sat related keyboard skills, get a dreambox.

Does a Humax "blind scan?" and what other benefits are there using the Humax?

I reckon get a Strong which has a blind scan. Can't go wrong for the price. They also do most things I think you'd expect from a Humax.
