    Default Windows Raid...lost?

    Hey all,

    I have a stupid question....

    I hd 3 x 1tb hdd's running via windows in a raid. ( no backup/no redundancy )

My operating system hdd started to smoke last night and it is all bad news.

I have reinstalled a new O/S -windows 7 (7127)- and originally I had windows XP prof.

When I go to 'my computer' the drive is no longer there and when I go to the manage drives I can see the 3 drives but they all say failed. I have the option to 'reactivate' but this does nothing.

Is there any way of rebuilding this raid?

I would love to get the info back if possible...

I have backed up (via acronis) the really important things but it would still be nice to get this info back.

    Any ideas guys please?

    I guess so!

I am by no means an expert at this sort of thing as was just dipping the toes so to speak....

It was just whatever windows gave me as an option.

I am reinstalling XP prof now...see if that makes a diff?

Recovery is possible. Reinstalling windows was a waste of time. I take it you had 3 X 1TB disks in a striped dynamic disk array? One of those hard disks is listed as missing. Check your bios to make sure all hard disks are being intialised.

I thought there was a 2TB drive/partition size limit with XP?

Well 2TB would work out being the limit if you were using a MBR with the default 512k sector allocation. Do the maths.

Anyway OP i bet you are using seagate 7200.11 1TB drives am I correct or am I correct?
