Default Leaving foxtel, help using their sat for selectv

Hi so I am leaving foxtel and was interesting in setting up selectv myself.

I saw in another topic where LeroyPatrol said to key in these values to my selectv transponder
    TP-12326
    Polarisation - Horizontal
    Symbol Rate - 28800
    FEC - 3/4
my question is what exactly is a transponder?

I have also read about LNB WILL THE DISH ALREADY HAVE OnE ON It OR DO I HAVE To BUY MY OWN?

IT ALSO SAYS I NeED ReCEIVER< WHERE iS THE CHEAPEST pRICE TO GET ONE FROM?

AND THIS SENTENCE "Now the last thing is to adjust the lnb skew. While watching the signal level screen once again, slowly turn the lnb and you will find your signal should peak when the cable connector is pointing at approx. 6pm. ie down" I UNDERSTAND THE BIT UP TO THE ie when the cable connector is pointing at approx six pm down> what does this mean?

please and thank you for all your help

excuse my setting out and on off caps my keyboard has a caps lock problem and it locks itself on and off all the time>

The TP (transponder) is what transmits the signals on the satellite.

Your dish will still have an LNB. You need to get on the roof and have a look and see what type. ie a 10700 or 11300

Prob easiest to get a Strong receiver from ebay. They have some new PVR units.

Have a look at your current LNB position and when looking into the dish the cable connector is prob at about 7 o'clock.

Another option if you are not confident in setting all this up is to get a full installation done which is free at the moment through Selectv but it's got a 2yr contract.

thanks for your speedy reply, much appreciated.

i saw a post in another thread about a sharp 15 dollar box being used, im trying to get this as cheap as possible, cheapest strong one i can find is around 50 dollars, any help here would be appreciated.

also, reading up some more, i read, Local oscillator frequency of the LNB is to be noted, i assume this refers to the type 10700 or 11300? and why is this important?

so basically what is involved is
    1. buying receiver
    2. set these settings in receiver, TP-12326
    Polarisation - Horizontal
    Symbol Rate - 28800
    FEC - 3/4
    3. repositioning satellite
    4. adjusting lnb

can these steps be done without a selectv card?
and on their website, i cant seem to be able to buy a card on its own anymore, so i need to grab one off you guys?

It will be an older Strong but will be fine.

The LO is specific to the LNB used so obviously if you are using one type and use the settings of another, it aint gunna work!

You don't need a card to realign your dish and I suggest you have your dish realigned first before getting a card.

As Leroy said you don't need a card initially as Selectv's promo channel is Free To Air so once you find that and fine tune your half way there.

    cheers

Also don't forget, the Foxtel service is transmited from the Optus C1 satellite at 156.0°E
SelecTV transmits on Intelsat 8 at 166.0°E

Your dish would need to be re-aligned 10° to the East & down a bee's dick.

It can be a very frustrating experience first time around.

If you get the right decoder, the signal strength info page can help with the alignment if you can take the decoder & a portable TV of some type to the dish it's self so you can see the tuning screen when making the adjustments to the dish.

It should be noted from what has been said, that it looks as if he has a twin/dual output 10700 LNB.
Also a reminder that the 7 O'clock position for the down lead is for the Eastern States. It can be 3 O'clock for Western Australia for the Optus Satellites. (Foxtel on C1.)

I thought the 2 cables from the dish were to spilt the horizontal and vertical freq. i thought selectv only requires horizontal?

does this still mean the cabling is okay as is?
    thanks

    G'Day Cobber,
Yes that will be OK, just use the one Cable. That LNB is used to supply 2 separate tuner inputs for the IQ box. So, if you wish, you could hook up 2 STBs independently. Or you could use a multiswitch, with H &V to several boxes. You would only be able to have it on one Satellite, with a card in each box, but they could tune different H or V channels.
Kindest Regards, " The Druid ".....

What makes you believe cwg is in Western Australia?

and what is a downlead?...I thought it was that black wire what leads into the house from the dish.
Bit it can't be that because for the coax to be at 7 o'clock don't make sense.

cwg..don't be such a tight arse...you're worse than me.

Seems there’s still a few cards floating around.
If you can grab one from here buy it soon before they run out.
All my cards were sent back to select and refunded as all systems now will have matched card and box.

So the rest of use have to send back all new unused cards while others still are allowed to keep on trading.
Seems a bit unfair,May come under a section in Aust fair trading act.

I don't want to hijack the thread but the idea is that support for the card only subs is here so not to burden Selectv as they don't want to support them anymore. I don't want to speak for them but aparently it's not cost effective for them hence their change to providing a card and box. A box which they are familiar with and able to support. That's my take anyway.
