Default XP / Vista / IANA Port Numbers

Windows XP upto SP2 uses source port numbers in the dynamic range of 1025to 5000. These ports now fall within the registered port range of IANA 1024 through 49151 which you would think will be an issue.

Windows Vista however does adhere to IANA guidelines and uses the dynamic port range as source ports 49152 through 65535.

Does anyone know what source port range Windows XP SP3 uses?

I have looked and looked and can not seem to find any info about this descrepancy (no doubt I am sure Microsoft's answer is "move to Vista")

Would also appreciate any feedback with experience in this area.

    Many thanks in advance

    Default

So it seems no one has experienced this before ?

It looks like Microsoft has a clear win....

To fix this problem this means that a user (or organisation) would need to move any Win XP PCs to Windows Vista?

    I give up....
