    Default xp updates

I am using windows xp sp2.
Each morning I fire up the computer i get a message that there is an update for windows xp.
So i down load the file #KB967715 and install.
Problem is this same file wants to update my computer every time i turn the computer on.
Any way of turning off the auto updates ?

2nd problem is that my program traxedit no longer runs on the computer (it is a DOS based program)
The other part of the program traxplot still works.
I have another computer using windows 2000 and it still works on that.
    Any ideas ?

XP doesn't run DOS files very well.

There will always be updates for Windows.... any reason why you haven't installed XP sp3? (it won't help the DOS issue though)

W2K is OK with DOS, but if you need to run a DOS program, it's best to use a DOS boot disk.

try and hide the update, if its installed then hiding it is the easiest way to go about it.

To hide an update, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click either Windows Update or Microsoft
    Update.
    2. Click Custom.
    3. Click to clear the check box that is next to the update that you want to hide.
    4. Expand the update that you want to hide, and then click the "Don't show this update
    again" check box.
    5. Click Review and install updates.

as for the dos based problem.... windows 2000 uses dos where as xp uses virtual dos which is probably why it works on the 2000 based pc, try contacting the maker of the program or there website for information regarding the issue...

    Tell me more.

I run AMD based systems (6 of them) and not one problem with SP3.
Are you sure it's not just something specific to your machine?
