used it 1/2 dozen times (when bored)....sad to see something so establised go but makes very little difference to me..

what is the attraction of it, I could get a bit of news, a bit of weather info, and a horoscope?

    IMPORTANT AUSTEXT NOTIFICATION

    THE AUSTEXT SERVICE WILL CLOSE
    ON 30 SEPTEMBER 2009.

    The Seven Network started providing
test Teletext services in 1977, with
live services commencing in 1982 in
    Brisbane and Sydney.

The Austext service today is still
    provided using the original 1970's
    technology. This equipment has now
reached the end of its lifespan.

    Unfortunately,it is not possible
    to replace the existing Austext
system with new equipment except at
    significant cost.

    THE AUSTEXT SERVICE WILL CLOSE
    ON 30 SEPTEMBER 2009.

Austext is a free service and does

Seven is aware that Austext has many
loyal supporters and we know that
many of you will miss the Austext
    service. We sincerely regret any
    inconvenience the cessation of this
service may cause and we have
endeavoured to provide you with as
    much notice as possible.

    Unlike when the service started,
    information currently available
on Austext is now freely available
from a number of alternative sources
    including over the internet via
    Yahoo7.

    CLOSED CAPTIONING SERVICES will be
    unaffected and continue to be
    available on page 801.

Fat lot of good telling us in advance as there is no alternative (on TV) to go to.
The other problem with teletext was that you needed a quality signal to be able to get it work and my Prime never did untill Digital was introduced.
Ahhh well, a few spare knobbs on the remote now.

I have a friend who has problem with their hearing and he will not be very happy. I am sure there will be an alternative soon.

Why would he be unhappy? News services are capitioned, or he could use the Internet..

I remember when Nine Perth had a text service with info, weather etc in the late 80s

Yes, add 5+ more Freview channels to cover the few options austext had.

Wow Freeview has so many more channels now, it must be great.

You can hope but 'No Dough = No Go'.
With the exception of closed captioning, none of the other channels seem to have any interest in Teletext unless 7/Prime held the copyright/licence to its operation and they couldnt use it.

    Hello to the forum!

I'm from Germany and very interested to show some AUSTEXT-screenshots on my homepage () before this service is stopped. Is it possible to send me some pictures of the most important pages (.gif or .jpg files please)? If yes simply send a private message.

There are other channels with teletext in Australia?

    Thank you!

Only channel Seven here in Australia uses full teletext. All the other channels use teletex as well but they only use it for subtitles and closed captioning.

Once its gone its only use will be for closed captions.

Thank you for this information. I know this two pages, but I don't want to copy this older pictures to use it on my site. I need "new" screenshots, for example the Main Index, Sports, TV Program and so on. And, if possible, the three pages with the message that the service is stopped. I hope anyone can help me.
