Default Foxtel IQ box dual inputs

    Hello,

    new dude here....

Was wondering about the Input 1 and Input 2 on the back of the Foxtel IQ boxes. Does that mean that you would need to run 2 cables from the LNB on the dish? Another cable is just what the wife ordered

Would the LNB on the dish need to be upgraded for this to work? Could you just put a splitter in between the main cable feed and the STU and have RG6 to the dual inputs? Would that work?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

    JL

    G'Day Cobber,
This is strange to say the least.
If they did this as an initial install, they would have used a twin/dual output LNB with two down leads to connect to the box. The same should have happened if it was an upgrade.
I would be questioning the installer if I were you.
The idea of using splitters etc will not achieve what the box is intended to do. ie: Independent twin tuners.

Kindest Regards, " The Druid ".............

    If you're doing it yourself,

& you only have a single cable coming from your dish,

you will need to change the LNB from a Single to a Dual LNB (10700)

& you will have to run another cable from the LNB on your dish to your STB,

The IQ may only work with limited functionality with a single cable input, (do not use a splitter)

The reason for two separate inputs from a dual output LNB is so you can watch/record channels at the same time, that are on horizontal and vertical transponders, which is not possible with a single LNB feed or a 'split' from a single LNB to both inputs. eg: a split would mean both inputs could only be one polarity at a time.

I am doing it myself. Can you advise where I can get a Dual LNB from? I found these dudes, does this model sound right?

    or this:

Now the question I have is by replacing the existing LNB with a new one, do they mostly use the same connection method? That is, would there be any realignment to be done?

Orginally I borrowed a cheap satellite signal finder and had a hell of a time so I got a pro out and he sorted it qucik smart. If I have to realign I might have to factor that into the cost.

What should you pay for the dual LNB?

    Cheers,
    JL

Both those LNBs would do the job, and you should not need to re-align your dish. The existing cable to your LNB could be re-used, it's probably terminated with a crimped F connector, the new 2nd cable should be done the same way and then both covered with self-amalgamating tape.

The LNB should be available for $20-25.

I wonder why the provider didn't install the 2nd cable for you, or have you "borrowed" a box from a friend

    It sounds like it!

When shopping be sure to choose one with 10.7GHz rather than 11.3GHz.

Plenty of established online dealers have them. For example

Local satellite installers in your neighbourhood will carry them too.

I'd be wary of that since he makes no representation about LNB provenance - it may be salvaged or even . Considering that his other item for sale is a , and he's using a virgin ebay account... well, you can draw your own conclusions.

You need to replace the LNB,

putting it it the same position as the old one should be pretty close, (same cable out position, & distance from the center of the dish)

you could take a picture of the old installed LNB, in case you want to refer to it later,

it may or may not need fine tuning, (check signal strength before changing, & after changing)

if it does, you will need a meter or see the signal strength & quality on your STB, (I sometimes take a small TV onto the roof) while I move the LNB slightly in or out, or screw slightly clockwise or anti-clockwise

You should not have to move your dish if it was last used by foxtel, if it was used by Select you will, they are on different Satellites

Make sure you get a Dual LNB with L.O. 10700 (the one on ebay you posted does not say if it is a L.O. 10700, or L.O. 11300 or Universal)

Just reconnect the existing cable to one output of the Dual LNB, then you will then need some rg6 Satellite cable & run another cable from the LNB to your set top box (& two F type connectors)

remember to power off all your equipment before connecting or un-connecting any cables to your STB or TV

    Good Luck
