Ok, cheers for that. Yeah, I used to know what it all was once as well.
I live out in the wops - probably 3 km cable distance from the exchange.
It would just be nice to get a bit more speed out of the system if I could - and that 53 dB attenuation figure is what is ringing alarm bells with me.
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it
I am also a fair way from the exchange - 3.8 km's from memory but I would have to check.
I cant remember what attentuation is.....yours is bigger though

That link makes a mockery of my figures and shows me being under a km from the exchange , which I know I'm not.
More than likely it has something to do with the lines out here , I am in a 3 year old estate 4kms from town. I have been knocked back for ADSL2 , but have no problems with getting 6 mbit + on an 8 mbit connection.
Makes no mockery at all , what it shows and theory proven by you mentioning not able to get adsl2 is that the new area is on a rim and as such will only allow adsl1.
Some where within 1.2km radius of your home will be a nice grey cabinet housing the CMUX for which you are actually connected to and be greatfull they actually did that as they do not fit the CMUX on all rims

I had an indian door knocker around the other night claiming he can get me ADSL2 with Telstra and guarantees it. I told him he is either full of shit or that Telstra deliberately knocks back ADSL2 connections with third party suppliers ( I applied and was rejected by Internode )
