    Default Unable to install 64bit?

    Hello austech community,

I've got a problem that for the life of me I cannot work out. I am running a Q6600 and a P35-DS3-L and I am unable to run 64 bit operating systems. I've tried installing XP64, Win7x64 and Ubuntu 9.04 64.

I managed to successfully install XP64 however i could only log in before the system would lock up and become unresponsive. Similar for Ubuntu. Windows 7 x64 freezes upon installation, I can only ever make it to step 3.

I've got XP installed. I've tested memory and it is ok.

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I have a Pentium D chip in an MSI P35 chipset board and have both Ubuntu 9.04 and XP64 running pretty well on it, but it's not like you should get drama's out of a Q6600 in that direction either. I do get the occasional BSOD after 6 to 8 hours of gaming however. I will admit the CPU heatsinks an aftermarket one and big however.
How big is your power supply and what kind?

So cooling and power supply should be OK, it's an odd one. The Ubuntu CD has memtest on it as standard so that you can soak test the memory but if that comes up at a loss then at least after installation that HDD will work in another PC without needing product re-activation; and thus allow you to test the hard drive.
