In previous iterations of the Matrix the Foxtel remote's red button was labelled 'CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION'. When pressed the subscriber woke up and was ejected from the Matrix. It became so popular they had to change the button's function but everyone still keeps pressing it out of habit.

I liked the way they said they were ingesting all their tapes onto servers. They're catching up with their customers who've been using servers to get Foxtel for years
Foxtel certainly have masses of floor space and equipment. When you see all that, it's tempting to think that Austar are just country resellers of Foxtel's product. After all, Austar's channels are all negotiated, produced and scheduled by Foxtel who also edit in the advertisements, prepare co-branded promos, produce all the TV guide content, run Austar's Irdeto encryption alongside their own NDS, and carry one or two Austar-specific information channels. Right?
Well Foxtel are certainly wholesaling their product to Austar, but Austar's operation involves more than just rebadging and spruiking. Austar manage their own equipment inventory, firmware localisation, sales network, contract installer network, support call centre, billing system, website and company admin. All that's done quite separately to Foxtel, under .
Telstra wholesale their copper network to other companies for voice and data. Foxtel's wholesaling is conceptually similar, but to consumers Foxtel and Austar appear joined at more than just the hip because most of the product that's delivered day-to-day by each is identical. What makes their cosy cooperation cartel-like is not so much the extent of infrastructure and product sharing, but the exclusive division of sales regions. Consumers have no choice of provider, hence there is no competition to put pressure on prices. It makes sense for Austar to outsource the program library, production and broadcasting - there's nothing wrong with that (FTA networks are also increasingly ). The problem for consumers IMO is that the outsourcing agreement is premised on non-competition.
