Hi, will these units work with seller cards straight from the box. Do they have any problems with card updates?

Yes mine does but may get hotter in the embedded cam.

are these units reliable? just wandering as they are fairly cheap.
Do they run quite?
what are they like compared to the humax 5400Z? I`ve got a 5400Z and I`m thinking of getting 1 of these. I would prefer a unit with a hdd though.
Do the white cards run hot in these if it has the voltage drop done to the reader?

the cards get hot in all boxes mostly, if u get a strong do the mod and it will run very cold. i done a mod to my 4653x and now its running great. voltage drop.

I have just purchased 1 from e-bay. Should be here by the end of next week.
How did you do the voltage drop to yours? Did you also cut a hole in the reader for heat to escape?

I will be doing more reading no these units and will post pics of the mod once i`ve done it to make life easier for others that are wanting to do it.

i cant wait for my new toy.

the mod will only cost u under 50c, there is no need to cut hole, just solder a diode and a resistor and off u go, it will drop the voltage to 3'2v. i will post pics tomorrow or monday with exactly how its done.

a cam is worth over $60 and from what i have heard they to get warm not as hot.

I think I will do the diode mod to it aswell. My humax has a diode mod done to it without a resistor and its dropped the volts down to 4.44v.
Should be enough, I`ve had my card in it for about 24hrs now and it looks like the card isn`t even thinking of getting hot.

Ok, I have received my unit today and I turn it on and it works but the picture isn`t very clear. It has faint line scrolling through the picture. Is there anyway to fix this problem???
I have tryed the rca cables from my humax setup and its still the same.
Anyone have any ideas??

Or should I send it back??
I dont want to mod it unless it has a clear picture, just incase I have to send it back.

i would say try it at someone elses house first, if it still not clear send it back........gee after waiting so long it turns out faulty lol

Min, the cable is probably receiving interference from something. Try seperating the RCA (maybe even trying another RCA?) from all power cables.

I was having the same issue with my 4653x, i had to change the RCA to a better quality one and i seperated the video cable from all others, it seemed to have got rid of the issue.

Edit: the lines i had were faint diagonal lines scrolling across the screen, particularly annoying when watching sport with a light background, ie, the field.

Let me know how you go.

johnbarry, I tried it with a seperate vidio cable and all is good. Thanks for that, much appreciated.
Well i`m off to sleep for a few hours as I work the grave yard shift.
I will mod the unit tommorrow and hopefully upload some pics of it.

No worries, thought that would be the issue, it had me thinking for a few minutes as i thought it was dodgey cabling from my dish and didn't think it was the RCA because it was "straight out of the box".

My question is, why would someone pay that much when its a simple thing to do and for the parts invloved it only costs 25 cents.
I`m sure if someone cant do it their self, their might be someone in the forum that could do it for them at a lot cheaper cost than buying that from e-bay.


ps: I`ll definetly have mine done on the weekend and will post the pics hopefully by sunday. I`ve been delayed with other matters and projects.
