    Default D1 frequency changes

I wanted to check some details before replying in another post and I picked up a list I printed out last February for D1 and something looked different to what I had just looked at on the Lyngsat site so I just rechecked and according to the current listing, there have been some rearrangement of tp/frequencies.
Back in February, SBS South EAST was shown on tp 12 at 12451 but now its shown on tp 11 at 12391 which wasnt a listed frequency before.
Its still shown on 12451 as well.
I havent gone thru each tp/frequency to see what else has changed but it has me curious why this was done.
It makes you wonder why they have both SBS2 and ABC2 available on D1 but not for C1 (Aurora).
Found another 'new' listing for SBS South EAST now on tp15 12658 that doesnt appear on the February list.
Why 3 SBS South Easts ?

To put it simply, SBS have just launched separate NSW, Victoria and Tasmania feeds, rather than just having one feed for the SE/South East region.

The reason Aurora doesn't have ABC2 or SBS TWO is because the platform is only funded to replicate analog services on the ground. The government is conjouring up another rural satellite service (aka Freeview Satellite). This new service will hopefully carry all digital channels available on the ground in Central and WA markets.

It's normal for satellite transponders to be reorganised occasionally. Users need to rescan to restore service (which is why many provider boxes rescan every time they're started). Usually consumer services have a home transponder frequency & symbol rate that is maintained for the lifetime of the service. For Optus Aurora it's 12407V 30000 2/3. For Austar it's 12305H 30000 3/4. Other transponders will come and go with different frequencies and symbol rates but the home ones stay the same. That way the receiver only needs to be configured with the home frequency and it picks up all the others using the DVB Network Information Table.

Smacca is spot-on I think regarding the extra D1 SBS services, and the omission of ABC2 and SBS2 on Aurora platform.

In fact SBS Tasmania on Optus D1 is the first time I've seen a Tasmania-specific satellite service for consumers (rather than just temporary feeds). It's an encouraging development, even if in SBS's case the only Tasmania-specific content is advertising.

Just thinking out aloud here, but what about the possibility of getting ready to transfer across to D3 when its up and running ?

would they need to if they were to start using that dual LNB that appeared in another posting?
With it they could see D1, C1 and D3 as its going to be aligned with C1, all on the one dish.
Or maybe this is a test for the future and do as you suggest and migrate these services over when D3 becomes active.

just wondering when d3 is launced if the freeview channels broadcasted on it will be compatible with my strong 4658x. I realise I won't receive the HD channels with this setup but will the digital ones still work or will they be broadcast in a different format?

No, they new system will be mpeg4. The 4658X is only mpeg2.

You would of course also require an authorised smartcard to decode the signals.

There's a few around and probably more to follow.

Strong have a couple I like, including the SRT4910 which does satellite and terrestrial, SD, HD, mpeg2/4 & H.264 and is accepts hard drives connected for PVR functionality.
