Hey, I'm thinking of making my first unix/linux box for a bit of fun, but I'm not sure wich distribution to go for? What would people reccomend? I havent worked out what PC I'll have to put it on yet, But in all likelyhood, a Pentium III will be about the fastest I'll have for it. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have always been a Rad Hat/Fedora person myself, but it is horses for courses with this topic. Ubuntu does appear to be the newbie's first chooice though.
Mandriva for me
Kryton is running Slackware, Lister is running Ubuntu but I stick to good old DOS.
A.J.Rimmer
PClos for me.
I think the newer distros would probably work better even on an old box. The best thing to do is to grab a few live CD/DVD versions to try out the interfaces to see what you like. Gnome/KDE or even more subtle or even exotic variations. Also helps to check out your hardware to see if there are likely to be any problems. (But I use Ubuntu, mainly because I want to use Mythbuntu because it's so well supported, hope to build a box in the next coupla weeks.)
ubuntu is the way to go plenty support too . nice forum no bull$h1t .lots of freebies too.
