Wow! From F1.com
Ferrari announced on Wednesday that they plan to draft in Michael Schumacher to replace the injured Felipe Massa at forthcoming Grands Prix, until the Brazilian is able to race again.
The seven-times world champion, who retired from Formula One racing at the end of 2006, will undergo a special training programme over the next few days to confirm he is fit enough to compete in next month’s European Grand Prix...

Now lets see Micheal, in a car that he does not know personally, on full slicks with different characteristics and different aerodynamics.
I think he will be up to speed in little time.
When he was racing we all use to complain he made the sport boring and predictable....funny thing is once he left, i for one missed him.
Its not often you will see a driver so perfect, hitting all the apex's with mm precision, so precise powering out without a hint of twitch, that he actually looks slow to watch....his fastest lap records still stand on many tracks around the world.
Cant wait to see him work through the learning curve.
i think shooey could drive anything with wheels to its fullest potential good to see him back, he looked in good form in the new top gear he was on recently.

Good on him I hope he hasn't lost the edge, always a chance with a comeback.
I bet Mark Webber's spewing, all his new found luck just probably flew out the cockpit. (only joking)
Hmmmm come backs are not usually a good thing.
I just hope his image and credibility are not tarnished.
IMO - Not a good move

You mean driving for Top Gear as "The Stig" wont help him?
This is just like a Sylvester Stallone movie LOL
When you do things right, people won't be sure that you have done anything at all
He is not a *rick or arrogant. to that poster.
He is just a fill in for some fun until Massa is fit again.
IMO F1 just got interesting again.
Interesting if he really can get back to world class so suddenly.
Looking forward to dog fights with Mark Webber.
Schummi was technically near enough to be my neighbour when I lived in Kerpen many years ago but I never had much of a chance to speak to him personally. He was practically never home.

Yeah your right, but at the beginning of next season would be best.
Their future is in the new young Gen.
Ferrari are in a hole ATM, bringing back Micheal till the end of the season will increase interest and advertising for the team, renew the fire of supporters and possibly help car and F1 merchandise sales.
Their not doing it expecting Micheal to win IMHO. (although it would be nice but he is a little over the hill now).

I still reckon it's going to be great to see him drive again and it will be good to see if he can give the others a run for their money in the current car.

Even as an out of shape 40 year old he I'm sure will still have the skill and the technical minset to put at least 80% of the current field to shame - it's not like there is one hell of a lot of talent out there at the moment.
There's heaps of talent out there. It's just getting the driver car combo right.

As Leroy said, the majority of the problem is mostly the car and the teams ability to develop and set it up, and secondly a car that suits the drivers style and or the drivers ability to adapt/compensate for it.
As drivers, they are a top, elite bunch with little separating them in skill, much of it is mindset.
An old known line of thought on package is, GP bikes were 80% rider, 20% bike, whereas F1 was 20% driver and 80% car.
Fully agree - especially the highlighted bit. We've seen on so many occasions drivers who have been out of the seat for a year and struggle to be competitive with lap times - although maybe less so with racecraft IMO.
Schumacher would need to do extensive testing to be competitive.
It'll be a good thing to see whatever happens

He can't do wrong with this move.
If he goes crap, he can blame the car, saying it's been developed in the wrong direction.
If he goes well, it'll show how good he was.
I'd be very suprised if he hadn't been doing little test stints in the F1 cars anyway.
But I do agree. Whether he actually was or not actually an arrogant *rick, that's the way I saw him.
But, maybe you had to be, to succeed like he did.
