I'm looking for a storage solution that is network accessible, been looking at NAS hdd cases but they seem expensize for what they are considering most cheapies are for a single hdd.Another option is to build a server out of spare parts that i have, i have a spare AMD Athlon 3gig cpu/mboard and a few spare tower cases. I dont want to run an OS if possible but not sure what my options are as this is all new to me. All suggestions welcomed.

dont say linux if i wanted it id install it
I was going to run FreeNAS (perfect if it meets your needs), but i settled on ubuntu, as i thought FreeNAS would limit what i could do in the future. Also, FreeNAS doesn't support software raid 6, plus the ubuntu forums has a wealth of knowledge.
Cheers, RHCP.
