hmm.... if it's melbourne, and the dish looks vertical, it is pointing horizontal, if it is pointing west, then i would be prepared to say it's aimed at intelsat10.
I was in the Hawthorn (Melbourne) area yesterday and large office block type building has a dish on it pointing almost vertical
I'm wondering what it was pointing to.

Im guessing your refering to the Swinburne Uni dishes.
Im passing there tommorrow morning, will take a look at them.
Most likely they are at intelsat10 as big mick mentioned.
No the dish was Horizontal Pointing almost Straight up
I'm trying to remember Where it was
It was either in the corner of Auburn and Riversdale
Or Glenferrie and Burwood
It just looked a bit odd Pointing up
maybe a bird bath
They were just playing a game of cricket in it
Could not be operating at the moment there is nothing straight up from Melbourne for Com's
Any chance that it's an offset dish with its mounting bracket reversed?
There is a massive dish atop the physics building at usyd which is pointing straight up.
I always wondered what they used it for.
Cheers, RHCP.

maybe it was used back before when i was born, when analog satellite was the norm. pointing straight up is the "hurricane" position as i've come to know it, as it has the least wind resistance in gale force or higher winds.
Silly, silly me drove through there today and forgot to look.
speaking of large mystery dishes, when i was on the westgate i think, coming into melb, the Daily Telegraph (i think?) building had a very large ground mount dish, i would say was larger than 12 metres easily, and not straight up, but appearing to be aimed at something. any ideas? if it's not i use, i don't care about a 5 hour drive there and another 5 back, and renting/borrowing a large truck. i want it!!
