churning from optus ?

I wat to change my adsl 2 service
now tpg looks good to me with the 50gb bare naked plan 25 on 25 off .
Now tpg tell me they cannot do it due to it being an optus dslam , they say i have to switch the line to telstra and then switch to them i mean wtf is the go with that ??
anyhow , what I am after is adsl2+ with better dl quota than i have now (7 on 14 off) uploads no counted and preferably a bare naked plan all hopefully for under $60
any suggestions , i cannot afford to be without internet for more than a few days

You can narrow the list down by droping the price your happy to pay, uping the data allowance & clicking the 'Filter' button.

Tip:- make sure you choose a 'shaped' plan, or a $4 per extra gigabyte plan - not a lame arsed $180/gb over limit plan that some extortionist companies would try to suck you into for going a tad over your agreed data allowance ( Dodo springs to mind )

you need a telstra line to get TPG as far as im aware (at my residence anyway).

I called up telstra a few times and they quoted a $300 install(and wouldnt budge on that).... wasn't happy to pay that upfront so i said stuff it and that plan went on the back burner...

Month or so latter we had a door knocker trying to sell me telstra cable internet LOL (as if, i wasn't born yesterday), anyway got to speaking with this chap and told him i was looking for a new telstra home phone line. He organized the install free of charge(he probably got a nice commission though), cant complain i got what i wanted in the end .

If you havn't had door knockers in a while it might be worth approaching those sales people that stand around in shopping centers or even a telstra store and see what they can do.

So now im on homeline basic (~$20), Engin VOIP with a generous plan from TPG. Could always ditch the phone line and go naked i suppose but its always good to have a backup PSTN line

12 on , 60 off , $3/gb extra
off peak times how i like it , ie 2am to midday
looks like only $40 to do using my own modem

now to figure out how long it would take to switch and if they throttle p2p though i spose i can just change ports

they tell me that maximum downtime will be 48 hours which is good . still i will have to wait until next week as i have an online uni quiz on friday

thanks sanity , does not seem any different than any other isp , i try to avoid whirlpool as pretty much people on post there if they have issues , you next to never see a post saying 'I love telstra' lmao
seems the issues with exetel are no different than issues with any other isp . i will be happy as long as i can have at least the same speeds as i do now , which are miserably slow for an adsl 2 + connection lol

Had exactly the same thing happen changing from Optus to iiNet. Turned out to be a 20 day wait to go to Telstra and a 4 day wait to iiNet. Not to mention that was without service for 2 days with Telstra and Optus pointing the finger at each other and 1 day without service from Telstra to iiNet.

I changed from an ADSL1 service with a major ISP to ADSL2 with Exetel late last year and I am very happy indeed.

The connection took place less than a week after I my application (I was previously with Telstra), with downtime being approximately 15 minutes. Incoming telephone calls were not possible for over a day as it takes up to 48 hours for the change of providor to filter through the telephone communications system. Outgoing calls however were possible immediately after the changeover took place.
I already possessed an ADSL2 modem, which I had configured before the changeover, so I was up and running again within minutes.

Some people complain of a lack of support from Exetel, but in fairness, Exetel do provide extensive setup and faultfinding guides. I gather that they will NOT hold your hand however and apparently they do they do not suffer fools gladly.
If you are competent to configure your modem and set up e-mail you should not have any problem.
If you do not know what you are doing get some help from a friend.

I understand that Exetel do throttle P2P in order to conserve bandwidth.

Sorry, I don't know as I do not do P2P, but I suspect that it will not be as simple as that.
