Default no Administrator access for Admin login on vista

Hi gang. I've got vista installed on my thinkpad, and when I installed it I created my account with admin privileges. Everything has worked fine, but I've just installed alcohol 120% and it says it needs to run first in with Administrator rights enabled??? Anyone know what's going on? When I check my account info its says Admin, and password protected. Just like I thought it should. Have I done something wrong? How do I solve this issue?

    thanks a bunch

    ian

Try it by right clicking on it and choose run as administrator.

Aboulaly, I'm afraid I don't know what you mean I should right click? The account icon isn't clickable, and they seemed to have changed the way the task manager works, so multiple cntrl alt deletes won't get me the 'hidden' admin acount either :-(

    hope you can help

    cheers

right click on the .exe install file for alcohol and "Run as Administrator"

If not there go to Manage Users and double check your Account Privileges.

bikeboy its what vista does! most programs in vista need to be run as administator. there is no need to worry about the account icon. usually you can right click on the icon for the program then "run as administrator". if not go to program files and and find the .exe like davo said. right click it then compatability tab, down the bottom tick the box for administrator.

Thanks guys, that seems to have worked. I was confused when it asked to run as administrator, when my account tells me I have administrator rights. I might just follow that google link

    cheers

Unlike XP, where there was only one administrator account and most single users used it as their main account, Windows Vista has another. It's referred to as the secret "SUPER" administrator account. By default in Vista installs it is hidden & turned off. So if programs need to run with administrative rights it will prompt you everytime. Get's annoying I know, but Microsoft thought it's in your best interest to not allow any programs full rights over your machine.

Thank god Windows 7 is on it's way, Vista was a flop from day one.
