Just ordered a Modbo 4.0 chip for my ps2, it's a v14 scph-75002 with the GH-041-14 motherboard. I am fairly new to soldering but confident enough to take a stab at the job. I only have a few questions, what size wire do I use i've heard you use larger size for the power part. Second question is how the hell do I solder up these little pin holes in this pictures part 1. (it's a link coz the pic is huge)

if you need to ask these questions
leave it alone
Guessing they are slightly different to through holes? Do I just scrape back and fill with solder then just solder the wire on like a pad?
Carefully scrape off the lacquer coating from the board and solder to the pad. A really good quality flux will make your life easier.
What would you do if your server was stolen or failed beyond repair?

Still trying to work this out just trying to work the best way to tackle the job (chip hasn't arrived yet), i've scraped back the laquer with a knife point. So you would recommend flux, let that dry, then heat, tin, tin the wire, and attempt to solder?.
I have a 20w iron with .5mm and 1mm tip, desolder braid, flux, .7mm 60/40 solder is this all I'd need to tackle the job? The via holes and the smd chips look the hardest not so worried about the copper pads just need to be stingy with the solder so it doesn't overflow.
So far i'm going alright, all pads done and all smd bits done just can't seem to get solder into the via holes yet. I'm touching the tip in the hole then putting some solder on the tip and pushing it back down in the hole but nothing happens .
EDIT: Diagram 6 is different to motherboard I am looking at the correct version of the installation for my motherboard but it's different. It's to hook up wire Y.

nothing goes in the hole mate
just on top
check the installs thread for some pictures, probably help to see what it looks like after its done.
Ah yeah found a picture of use, got the wires soldered to the via holes but I touched the iron on where you connect for the 3.3v and melted i'm guessing the resistor there . I guess iin the bin it goes.
try reattach the resistor...
I have had a go at it but it looks like i've cooked it with an iron, I will post a picture up tomorrow and see if I can get idea's. Would be awesome if someone knew what there values are but that's probably wishfull thinking . Nothing that can't be solved with a willing person and a decent ohm meter.

Thanks a lot for that, made me realise how stupid I was. I've done first yr tafe as an electrician too. Unfortunately they don't have values on them. Can someone with a v14 ps2 do some testing for me would be much appreciated? Will only take you to poke around with a ohm meter nothing more.
