There has to be power for the lnb to switch between Vert and Hori polarisation. In your dish setup is the lnb power set to on?

hi.
got a strong 4658x satellite box and where the ch no is sometimes comes up as lnbf error, turned it off then went outside to realign the dish to optus c1 again with a power supply connected to the meters rec socket and the lnb socket connected to the lnb. aligned good then plugged the receiver cable back into the lnb and turned the box back on.
re programmed the channels and worked great, about 5 mins later same thing happens again, whys that, box is not sending power to the lnb as a multimeters been pt on the lnb in socket and no voltage

yes and it still doesnt send power, turn it off wait turn the back on later good then 5 mins later same thing
Faulty LNB, poor connections in cabling/connectors (eg: shorts) faulty power supply in receiver, or a combination of the above.
well I think you have found your problem! It might be best to send your box to Strong for repair if you can't repair yourself.

yeah put the multimeter on the socket and no power and i was wondering wether itd be best to send the box back to the local dealer it came from it it continues
Might be an idea to open her up and check for leaking or bulging caps in the power supply if she is out of warranty.
If it's a faulty LNB or a short in your cabling, the supply shuts down as a safety precaution, then resets after a while after the short is removed (or turning off the box).
Check your cabling and connectors for shorts... likely fault.
Second, try another LNB.
If neither of those, it's a faulty box.
no its brand new box

measure the voltage on the lnb input on the box to be sure then and if definitely no volts then it's a warranty job. Too easy.

If you leave the box turned on, but with no LNB cable connected and voltage remains present at the LNB connector, the box p/s is probably ok (but could vary under load).
Check the coax for shorts... eg: disconnect the cable from the box and LNB.. there should be an open circuit when measured on ohms scale... if you get a reading... there's a short, most likely at the connectors.
If no cable short... connect to the box then measure the voltage at the connector at the LNB end. If no, or low voltage, cabling/connection fault.
If voltage ok, connect the LNB. If box p/s shuts down, faulty LNB is likely.
Process of elimination.
i am with mtv if the cable has a short it will shut the power supply down on the lnb output once restarted it fires up again until short happens check cable connectors and cable

IF IT DONT WORK USE A BIGGER HAMMER
also the box worked good from friday till now and only just started going funny this afternoon so will double check cables again
measured the cables with a multimeter and the setup is using the existing rg6 quadsheild going from the digital antennas to the tv and using sat/fta diplexers at each end, a satellite cable running in the ground (one end into a discq switch and the other into the outside end of the sat/fta diplexer.
the cable running to lnb2 on the discq switch has no short but the inside cable does took the cable out the stb and plugged in to the sat box as the inside end doesnt have one of those diplexers yet. have to go to the splitters by the antenna when its not dark and measure each cable one by one

turned the box back on with no lnb plugged in and all good for a few minutes then the same thing again, would it be the box then.
also how do you set up a motorised satellite dish to work with the strong 4658x satellite box for optus d2, optus c1, optus d1 and pas 8 satellites, where do you have to align the motor and the dish to get those satellites
That's quiet a complex situation shonky12, so maybe a short there.
