    Default RG6 Cabling Assistance Required

    Guys,
I need some advice asap please:

This is my dilemma. I built a 2 storey home a few years ago (plasterboard internal walls). Whilst I ran a cable for TV in the rumpus room, I did not run a separate RG6 quad shield cable also for Foxtel.

However I do now have Foxtel access in that room via a diplexer at the wall plate and also in the roof.

My dilemma is that I want to install IQ to that room and the Foxtel installer told me that I need to run another RG6 Quad shield cable. Now I took some pics of the cable runs (pre plasterboard) and the cable runs vertically up until it gets to the space between the 1st and second floors and then runs horizontally for at least 6 metres before going up vertically agsin inside another wall to the roofspace.

    My question is:

    * Am I dreaming trying to even contemplate running another cable here to get IQ?

    * If I'm not dreaming whats my options here?

    * Can I tie 2 cables to the existing cable and pull these through (may not be enough space in the noggin holes to do this?

    * Can I get a sparky in to get in the roof and use whatever tools they use to go vertically straight down?

    * Can an electrician do this and not wreck the joint?

Any assistance / experience here would be greatly appreciated.
    THanks

If it's an external wall then you may have to have the cable clipped on the outside brickwork. I've tried pulling my cable between floors and it gets stuck on the right angle bends. I want to replace the old 75ohm coax for RG6. Worse thing for me is it's an internal wall so I can't clip the cable on the outside and run it in.

If you're on a slab and working with an internal wall,... your options of a clean solution are gonna be slim.

Unfortunately, not a chance of pulling another cable through when you have right angles involved.

With a long extension on a bit maybe if the walls are over each other . Might require a inspection hole on the top floor to aline the bit to the centre of the wall bottom plate of top floor before progressing down.

Since when is the customer required to run coax for the contractor?

Thats what they are getting paid for and is a requirment of their contract.

I would be phoning foxtel and complaining.

I think Foxtel bauk at anything that may take more than an hour to be honest. pretty pissed off as the fox guy told me to get an electrician in to run the cable.

Fernbay - mate you are spot on.

I think fox do not want to take a risk that pulling the only tv cable through with two new cables attached may break in the wall cavity leaving me with not even FTA reception.

I'm gonna call them and whinge

Guys, should I forget about even trying this as i have a sparky coming over late lext week who reckons he can dio it (he aint seen the job yet)

Whilst trawling through the archives I came across this post and this got me to wondering, (as usual), how did it all turn out, did the sparky do it, did foxtel, or was the whole concept abandoned? This is another case of the reader being left hanging, regarding the outcome

cable runs vertically up until it gets to the space between the 1st and second floors and then runs horizontally for at least 6 metres before going up vertically agsin inside another wall to the roofspace.
whoever run cable like this is the one to blame.

It is no point complaining to Foxtel or anyone, because it is impossible to pull the existing cable back and running second cable.

The only option to get IQ in this case is to get second cable run to external wall.

Just out of curiosity, what switches, connectors and splitters are you using? Names, specs and freq. ranges please. When you say TV, are you referring to digital RF from an antenna or analogue RF from an STB?

Not sure on brand but the way I have it configured is...

splitter/combiner, at Dish & TV antenna side

FTA TV port 40 - 860 MHz pass, power block.

SAT TV port 900 - 2250 MHz pass, power pass.

this puts normal terrestial and sat IF frequencise on the one line and then the reverse is done a the TV/STB end...

SAT Bandpass with power to STB, one leg

TV band pass to TV antenna input, other leg

    works a treat.

There is also a dual output LNB and 4 way multiswitch involved but for the sake of the conversation I will leave them out. the main aim was to state that you can combine normal terrestial TV RF (digital and analoge) and SAT LNB IF frequencies with power pass, onto a signle coax and then split it at the other end.

there was an image floating about here some time back but I cant seem to find it. Maybe some kind sole here can post it????

he needs TWO cables from multiswitch to diplexer for IQ to work. In your diagram there is only one cable to each diplexer.

Wasn't answering the OP's post but optima collins's question about my setup.

I know you need 2cables to make use of the IQ2 properly but I don't have an IQ2 so I don't care!

Yeah, I have a setup going from analogue RF out of a DVD player so that my mother can watch her favourite shows on 3 tv's. I use it as an RF modulator for digital TV and two satellite receivers, then split it to two secondary TV's, the prime TV being fed directly by either the composite or component outputs from the boxes. I posted a picture here a while back (too tired to look it up). Anyway, anlogue RF to TV1 (kitchen) is viewable, TV2 (bedroom) is not. Still haven't figured out why despite all connections being clean, so I use a video sender.
    May try your setup instead.
    Cheers
