I have never played with newcamd but I have used NewCs server and it accepts a multitude of clients including mgcamd, cccam, radegast it may well take a newcamd client as well - check out the config file
hell for all I know newcamd and newcs might be sort of clones of each other - although I am sure Newcs is definitely only a server not a client

The openbox will happily connect to any DM box running newcs or newcamd.

    Thanks for the confirmation.

So can i run cccam as the softcam and run newcamd as the cardserver or is whatever i am using as the softcam also need to be the cardserver?

Sorry if what i am saying is not making sence as i have said i am new to dreambox.

Basically i want to run my orange card in the dm (i have this working with cccam) and connect as a client with my dreambox. The openboxshare software will only work with newcamd server so how do i get pics with orange card and run newcamd server?

    thanks.

On the dreambox run NewCS as the server and cccam as the client
on the openbox run newcamd as the client to the NewCs server on the dream

note that normally cccam can be client and server - but for your config you want newCS as server so cccam is client only

When I did a Google there were lots of Rusian hits. Interesting bit of kit.

It is a shame you have to have your PC turned on all time for this to work and a serial cable plugged into the PC and OpenBox .. else a great and very cheap bit of kit.

Well this is still nice for me. I have an Open box.

To use with my study where I have a PC anyway this would work fine.

When I have a moment this will be a new project for me.

DM500, Cardserver will need to be NewCS. You will need to configure the newcs.xml file to match your setup.

DM500 will also be Client to itself via softcam CCcam. You then need to setup cccam.cfg file to log into as a user setup in newcs.xml file

The above are key items assuming that you have suitable image e.g. PLI and downloaded the NewCS and Cccam cams. Hey there are sample configs you can download as well.

Of course if you are new to this read and try, read and try - plenty of info around. Look for Tutorials and read.

Be prepared to load and reload images, retry and learn.

Once you have mastered getting the DM500 working to itself as a client adding another client is easy be it another DM, Open Box, Octagon etc

Thanks for your helpful post. I have set up the dm with newcs as the cardserver and cccam as the softcam.

I have configured newcs with my boxkey and setup the newcamd server within newcs.

I have then put in cccam the N: line to connect as a client to newcs as per the newcamd settings.

Still i have no pics. I can get pics when just using cccam and no cardserver. What must i be doing wrong?

I can post my config files if it helps in you helping me.

    once again thanks.

To be more specific this is what i have modified in newcs.xml

I have added a username and password to the newcamd server:

    <name>user1</name>
    <password>pass1</password>

I have added the boxkey for both readers (even though the dm is using the sci0 reader only.

    <boxkey>123456768</boxkey>

Everything else is left as default.

Now in my cccam.cfg file I have added the following N: line

    N: 127.0.0.1 12000 user1 pass1 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14

I also have my boxkey in here as well:

    BOXKEY: /dev/sci0 12 34 56 78

I have in the dm softcam menu using latest pli image cccam as the softcam and newcs as the cardserver. I still cannot get pics and do not know what else to try.

    Please help. thanks.

Telnet into the dm500 and run these commands.

    Code:
    killall CCcam
    CCcam -d
(CCcam might be case sensitive. running ps will tell you what process name CCcam is.)

CCcam will start to output with details on how it is running and hopefully any problems it is having.

Try adding the lines below to newcs.xml (if not already there) and then run the following from a command line via a computer on your network:

    "telnet DMIPAddress 1001"

Where DMIPAddress = the IP address of the DM500

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    <debug>
    <level>normal</level>
    <type>init</type>
    <output>console,tcp</output>
    <console_options>normal,init</console_options>
    <tcp_port>1001</tcp_port>
    <tcp_options>normal,init</tcp_options>
    </debug>
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

If you get prompted for a password just press enter. You will then be in the NewCs console where you can view what is happening, card registering, users logging etc.

It looks like you have the wrong port number in CCcam.cfg. 12000 is the CCcam port, newcs has 6666 (from memory) as default.
