    Default "scrambled channel" on selectv

    Hi all,
Got one of Fernbay's cards and running selectv for the past 2 weeks.
It annoyingly goes to "scrambled channel" every now and then (always in the best part of a movie).
Sometimes, it will come back after 30-60 seconds, sometimes have to switch box off and back on. Couldn't get it to come back at all about 10 minutes ago, so gave up.
The signal strength shows as OK (80%), and if I go to the selectv channel, it shows their logo and music.
    Using a Strong 4654x.
    Any help/advice appreciated.

Try loading a different firmware onto the box. I don't have, or have owned a 4654x for longer than a few days, so I can'r recommend any firmware in particular, sorry.

strong boxes are not irdeto compliant, they are conax.......

you could try latest firmware, but it would be less stressful to get a genuine irdeto box, or a non genuine irdeto box that works properly.

    say an openbox x-810.....

thanks for the input. Looks like I need to upgrade.

Why does the Strong (conax) work?

Conax is a pseudo Irdeto, but not fully compliant or Irdeto licenced...

I have a couple of Strong boxes, a 4658x and 4652, and no issues what so ever. It's unusual to have issues with Strongs.

    OK,
So should I update the firmware before spending more money?
After a quick search as Strong, it says to update via RS232. Can it be done via USB?

I would upgrade with the USB port. BUT, make sure the firmware is the ONLY thing on the memory stick. Works well (on a 4658 at least).

    G'Day,
far more reliable to use a Null Modem Cable. (crossway).
Go to Strong site, make sure you get the correct file and loader for your model, as well as the instructions.

I have a 4654X and no problems with the latest firmware.

You can do the upgrade via USB (easiest method) or via the RS232 connector with a null modem cable.

If you use the RS232 method, you also need to download & run the firmware loader software first.

If the firmware upgrade doesn't work you will most likely find the box has a fault as most people I know who have selectv all run Strong boxes with no problems.

As a caution turn your box off before removing your USB drive, then restart
as there have been some issue's with pulling the drive straight out as you are unable to stop the device as you would under windows.

upgrade software via USB. Was all good until this morning when scrambled cam up again.
Might persevere and upgrade to the new Strong HD twin tuner, HDD with satellite that is due soon.
    Thanks for the help.

    Just a thought,

You aren't turning the box off are you?

Often smartcards are missing updates because boxes are turned off, then take a while before receiving the next 'hit' once power is on again.
