why would you need to remount the partition if all you did is plug it into another computer?

Are you using windows ? If so you could have a look at the Disk Management in the Computer Management, under admin tools in control pannel.

Right click the drive partition and select "mark as active".

    WARNING!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!! Of course this may make you other drive no-longer active!!!!!!

So you could see if you can create a boot disk and put what ever files are needed and use the command line tool.
    From Windows XP Help

    1. Open Command Prompt.
    2. Type:
    diskpart
    3. At the DISKPART prompt, type:
    list partition

Make note of the number of the partition that you want to mark as active.

    4. At the DISKPART prompt, type:
    select partition n

    5. Select the partition, n, you want to mark as active.

    6. At the DISKPART prompt, type:
    active

I would also expect some of the linux boot cds will do it for you as well...
