    Hi,
I had the same problem. Gave up on doing it myself as I could not find the battery. As it was under the warranty I took it to the service. The poor technician had to take almost everything apart to get to the battery, well hiden deep below everything. Don't know why asus put the batteries there... stupid.

    Cheers

Sorry buddy, but something stinks like BS over this post.....!

There is no way in my opinion a CMOS battery is going to run out in warranty!

    How long is your warranty?

Did you buy it second hand or brand new?

Most companys would honour a 1 week out of warranty. Did you inform the sales dept or Asus that you were having issues - before - this one week "out of warranty" period?

    More info needed!!!

You do realise that the date above is 09....

Ok. Did you ever notify them (MLN), that you were having any battery CMOS errors before the warranty period expired?

Assuming it was made withing 3 years, CMOS batterys are good for 5 years +

It's rare that they go. You might have a different problem. You might have dropped it and something is causing it to short out now and again.

How do you know for sure, it's the CMOS battery?

Have you rang Asus and asked them about any reports of premature CMOS batterys in that range?

    Ok JK200SX,

One line replys to questions that might help you fix your problem, are going to make this post bigger than Ben Hur...

How about replying to my above post - to every sentence that has a ? mark -thems is questions.....

I'll put it basic for you ok!

I have LOTS of years dealing with PC suppliers. If you are just out of warranty, i don't see it a big problem to get it fixed for you free of charge. I'll dontate my time and expertise - to you - for free!

But to be honest, i smell a rat somewhere! Your lack to give freely given information and lack of it, belies your case.

So there you go: If your case is 'real', i'll give you a 99.9999999% chance of getting your latop fixed for free (not allowing for postage costs of course).

Answer these questions and please reply as in 1, 2, 3 and so on.

    1) Have you dropped the laptop?

    2) Did YOU personally buy the laptop from MLN and on what terms did you buy it (Cash, Credit, Payment plan etc)?

    3) Have you, at any stage, notified MLN about this issue - before - you suspected it was a CMOS battery issues?

    4) What are the actual faults coming from your laptop that make you believe that it's CMOS battery issues?

Can't be better than that can it?

If you can't or won't answer the above - then STFU!

    Hey Obba,

I appreciate you trying to be helpful, but I have to agree with the above poster here.

Firstly, I've been a poster on this forum for the last five years, and I don't post bullshit items, nor do I piss people off when I reply to their emails like saying shit like "I smell a rat"... and "this is BS". You turn people off before they have a chance to reply. So cut the f*cken emotion out and if you care to help, then help, otherwise don't!

    Now here are your answers:

    1) Have you dropped the laptop?
    No

    2) Did YOU personally buy the laptop from MLN and on what terms did you buy it (Cash, Credit, Payment plan etc)?
    Personally, cash

    3) Have you, at any stage, notified MLN about this issue - before - you suspected it was a CMOS battery issues?
No, the prompt on startup said CMOS battery issue

    4) What are the actual faults coming from your laptop that make you believe that it's CMOS battery issues?
Its says CMOS battery issue upon startup (as per what I wrote in my firstpost!)

    JK200SX,
I'm not trying to be difficult. but i have asked questions in the other posts and you kept replying with line answers.

As in 3) You should have notified MLN that you were having issues. If you had then you would have been guaranteed to have got it repaired under warranty, as you had told them about the CMOS issue.

I'd contact Asus ( i don't think their tech support is crash hot personally), and tell them that it's just out of warranty. How you get around the issue of why you never notified the dealer or them (Asus), when you were first having problems, is up to you.

As PhillTheQuad says, take the back off and see you can locate the battery. As i said prior as well, it's very rare for CMOS batterys to go within 5 years, nevermind 2 years.

Also, as i said, Asus may 'know' of CMOS issues with the F5 series. There are 12models in the F5 range.

I know of one F5 model which reportedly has CMOS issues. Which model is yours?

    JK200SX,

    "Which model is yours?"...

    It's only one question.

If you have the model that has had CMOS issues, then you get your Laptop repaired or replaced for free... problem over...

2 Days, and no answer to the simple question to "What model is yours".

Pretty strange, considering he was the one asking for help.

As i said before - smells like BS!!!!!

Anyway, one of the F5 models that did have CMOS issues was the X51R.
