Default TRRESTRIAL TV via High Definition

As many of u know that the Terresrtrial Televison introduced standard set top box about ayear ago
n late last year they introduced a High Definition set top box.
But standrad set top boxes are easy to operate n many of us got a better picture quality n a better sound.
But the High Definition set top boxes r a bit different from the standard set top boxes.
HD Terrestrial Receivers needs a better high quality of TV aerial then the cheap ones flying around in the local market.
Even after inserting a High gain low noise amphlier, picture n sound quality is much better than the Standard set top boxes, we also we get extra HD channels.
But why after a few hours the picture start to freeze n goes dead.
can someone please guide me -why?
your early guidance a help will be highly appreciated.

Could be a fault in the HD STB, or a gradual loss of signal depending on the time of day, ie, changes in the signal path, or possibly an increase in the local noise or interference level which is decreasing the signal to noise ratio, and therefore the ability to decode the signal. HD requires a higher signal to noise ratio to decode than SD. Is the STB heating up perhaps it is a thermally related issue with the receiver, there are as you can see a few possible causes. It might pay to keep a accurate log of when the fault occurs, ie same time every night or after x hours of operation, this might help you to isolate the fault.
    Common sense isn't !!!

Although digital receivers can and sometimes do fix an average picture and turn it in to a fantastic one , you do still need a decent antenna most of the time but depending on what the signal is like in your area.

As Jaz808 mentioned , he is using a cheap antenna and having no problems. I have a slightly more expensive antenna but get low signal due to living in a known " black hole " area.

If your receiver keeps locking up I would firstly check the signal level......in your receivers menu you should find a signal meter somewhere that shows the signal being received when you are on a particular channel. Signal strength can vary between channels , so its possible you may just have a problem on a particular channel through " borderline " signal.

The other thing is very cheap chinese boxes can lock up for no particular reason , though sometimes over heating is a reason.

So is the pixelation and freezing just confined to one channel or is it all of them ?

I had a similar problem to yours and it turned out to be the settop box I had purchased from tandy. Can you plug the aerial straight into the tv and get a decent analogue picture? If you can and you do, it might point to the digital box being at fault.

It frrezes in all stations, but sometimes it is perfect signal quality @ 80-93%, but after it jumps down to 40-5-% that is when the picture starts to freeze.
I am getting a better / good analogue picture direct TV aerial to TV.
Great thanks mate.it is nice to have mates like u.

    All your coax connectors healthy?
Try another fly lead between the S.t.b and Wall socket?
