Hi all, Need some advice about a product but unfortunately I have to be a little vaig to protect my interest. but please help! There is a product which is sold in Australia which is a pretty standard battery powered digital temp controller which has normal open/close relay on it. what I need to know is if I wire this to mains and fit into an enclosure what do I Need to legally do "eg. c-tick" to sell this to a consumer and what price would I be looking at?

Power it with an approved external plug pack - cheap as chips and no reg. problems...just a thought.

You will need to have your device tested somewhere like here:


Simply attaching a powerpack to a battery operated device will totally change it's RFI behavour and will require a new approval even if both already have the c-tick.

Hmmm...and we wonder why we have no innovation or manufacturing in Australia...just build it!

There are a heap of standards you need to adhere to. It would cost up to $500 just to buy all the standards books required, then you need to get it tested. I wonder how expensive testing is?

We used to test devices ,usually letterboxes by putting large crackers in them and lighting them. Called a practical test.

Wire it up , make it run at full power for 24 hours and if it don't light up its fine.

i am with scooter on this one.
if you use an approved plug pack there will be no requirement for electrical safety checks thus no costly testing reqd.
you can still mount it in "your own enclosure" as the unit should also be approved.
if you need c-tick compliance labels, then pm me as i can help out with that

As long as you have a good insurance policy for when someone's house burns down, you'll be fine....she'll be right mate.

The alternative is to make sure it's a big, hot fire.
