Default Smargo Newcs and Linux (Ubuntu)

    Hi Folks

After much research and www trowling I have hit a stumbling block and I no longer know where my issue is...

I should explain I know a few linux commands but Im no expert but I know enough to read newcs from the command sheel and also know enough unix to stop start processes ect

I have recntly got working (Again after much research) my n d s 3 card in a smargo on a dreambox 7020 Hoever I want to move this to and old laptop top free up the dreambox

After installing UBUNTU server edition and installing drivers ect I have the card recognised by Newcs.i686 ver 1.67 in fact no probs at all Hoiwever when I come to connect a client (I prefer mgcamd but have tried cccam to connect as well) I cant get the two talking

I get errors writing to card

The errors are [ Pheonix ] failed to write (res=73) and [ Pheonix ] failed to write (res=1)

I have played about caids in priority list ignore list and replace.list but still no joy and because I get the same errors with the cccam client this gets me thinking something is not right on the unix side perhaps drivers

Why does this work perfectly on debian linux dreambox but not on ubuntu linux the only difference on the dreambox being the drivers are embedded in the latest image and dont have to be installed manually

I forgot to mention its a smargo Im using

    Thanks in advance

Can you just clearify that by debian linux dreambox you mean 'Dreambox' and not 'Debian on Linux'. PC!!!!

    Hi Humtum

    Yes Debian on Linux PC

I decided to dump ubuntu and install debian linux in server mode not desktop mode - I fingd debian GNU unix much easier to control especialy around the root account

Im pretty sure my issue is around the serial port in my case I am using an ibm thinkpad 1.7ghz R51 model and usb port to the smargo reader

Newcs is reading the card fine in terms of identifying it but when mgcamd sends an ecm newcs cant send the right command to the card to get the ecm back to mgcamd

So I have done a bit of research and I think my problem amy be related to the way my usb port is accessed by the debian unix because I beleive newcs cant take control of the smago it treats it like a pheonix over serial and therefore I think I need to either install a new driver for debian or configure the standard ttyusb for my particular smartcard reader

Its so frustrating as Im nearly there but not quite!!

I am using CCcam with Newcs and Newcs recognises the card and as soon as I connect CCcam, Newcs tries to send keys and next second CCcam gets disconected automatically!!

I have reached coonclusion after many hours research that it is not possible

debian linux PC + smargo + newcs no go

debian Linux Dreambox + smargo + newcs work perfect

I think the problem may well lie with the way mgcamd and ccam talk to newcs

tried many different configurations with newcs and different versions

As you can see below newcs is reading card and passing caid for ready

    Here is output from mgcamd

You may want to edit that above post and take out your card serial #, if your paytv provider reads these forums they may well disable your account with them, that would mean no more EMM updates to your card, hence it will stop working. I know skytv in NZ probably would, as its against their terms and conditions to use the smartcard in anything else other than the original sky box they provide to you.
