I own a HD box and I get the usual channels that are available.

Yes, mpeg4 is part of the 'freeview' standard, however, there's no terrestrial mpeg4 transmissions at this time in Australia and I have doubts there will be for a long time due to the required expense from networks to set up, and the fact there are so many mpeg2-only tuners in Australia now, I think the govt would be unwise to implement a change to the DVB-T standard in the short term.... but, that's politics, what's practical isn't always the decisions they make.
Did I read in the earlier advertising correctly that only a 'FreeView' approved/ticked/blessed stb would be able to access a 'UP Market' EPG not available to lesser inferior unapproved STB's?
Also, wasnt there something about advert skipping facility being available if you were 'Time Shifting' a program or was that just the '15 Extra Channels' it implied would only be available to a 'Freeview' approved STB ?
I thought from the earlier press/TV adverts for the 'Freeview', it was something extraordinary but now it seems like it was just an excuse to charge more for what every other STB does anyway and cheaper.
Today regreatably, neither price or brand name can be relied upon to indicate the quality of many electronic devises.

This inability to FF adverts (surely THE reason for using any PVR !) and the inflated price of 'FREEVIEW'-branded poop are good reasons to avoid them !from what I have read freeview badged PVRs will not be able to ff ads
Ease-of-use in regard to the (setup for) recording of daily/weekly programs/series will sell a few units....but there's not a lot worth recording ...is there ?
Freeview = Regular FTA + marketing.

Seeing 'Freeview' is the illigitimate offspring of the Commercial TV broadcasters, it flies in the face of reality that they who push the envelope of allowed advertising to the Max, would sell a PVR or any other devise to ignore/FF adverts.
Of course the broadcasters could for a suitable fee to viewers, have such a STB to which they would explain to their advertisers that they are not increasing their advertising fees to offset the fact the viewers now cant see their products.

$20K is payable by anyone wanting to use FreeView’s branding, hence the higher price for Free View labeled boxes. Technically there's no benefit whatsoever in buying free view labeled boxes.
Advert skinning on PVR playback is not allowed. Nowadays most PVR's have MPEG4 H264 processor. Mediastar HD8000T has advert skip function on playback in addition to 64 times Fast Forward.
