Default Chips Compatible With PS2 90002 (GH-072-42) AKA 90006 Series

Modbo's have given me a fair bit of grief over the last few months with the latest PS2 slims. Even chips with firmware 1.93 on them were hit and miss.

Cwispy put me onto the duo3 ultras which worked pretty well, however i had difficulty getting my hands on wholesale quantites of them. DUO3 ultra was okay, but would red screen very ocassionally easily fixed by hitting the reset button.

After a bit of research came accross this; (Mars Pro GM-816HD)

Worked first boot without any issue, went through about 20-25 discs mixture of pal/ntsc all booted without a hitch.

These dont seem to be used much in Aus, but I highly reccomended to all that are installing onto the newer slims.

If there are any aspects of the chip you would like tested let me know and ill happily test it out

yes even if you have been able to get hold of modbo 1.93 , i have found that the actual firmware was 1.99

Can't say I have had any issues with the proper V1.93...OZ: I know most have V1.93 printed on the pcb, but did the ones u had that were suspect come up as V1.93 on the splash screen also?

    Gotta add something.
Ive spoken to and read on quite a few message boards that PS2 90002 cannot boot PS1 games.

I believed this to be true as well for quite sometime.

However i can now say that i have tested the Mars Pro 816HD and it has been able to boot Original PS1/Backup PS1/Original NTSC PS1/Backup NTSC PS1 games.

All you have to do to boot the games is, go into the disc explorer page then press the reset button twice, the console should now restart and the game should boot

Ive spent quite a while testing it, and the games have booted with a 100% success rate.

Just for the record guys you can get the modbo 4.0 with 1.99 firmware to work on the GH-072-42. Some of the points are a bit different but there is a good diagram floating around that works.

    care to share the diagram?
Are you sure it wasnt a 1.93 firmware, but 1.99 written on the chip?

Ok by "floating around" I meant hiding on this spanish site.

Now on the chip in the image it doesn't specify that it's running 1.99 (I think they edited the number off the image) but I can assure you that it works.

I did my install myself and when I boot up it displays 1.99 on the screen and everything.

This modchip looks very interesting, especially because you state the PS1 backup compatibility is good. My PS2 is a SCPH-90004 PAL (GH-072-42), I think the system is identical to the SCPH-90002.

    1. I found some info that says you can't save settings on the Mars Pro M-816HD, is that true?
    2. Some modchips bypass the different loading screens of games, like the black screen with the Playstation logo, do the Mars Pro M-816HD skip these?
    3. On the official website I found diagram for the GH-072-42. However, the motherboard in the picture does not look like the GH-072-42 motherboard, does anybody have a correct diagram?
