Default Whats the best ADSL2 central splitter?

Im fighting slow speeds after upgrading to ADSL2.

Before i call up the ISP and complain i want to install a high quality central splitter in the ceiling and rewire all the phone lines in CAT5 solid core before complaining to them.

What is the best/fastest ADSL2 central splitter that Telstra approves?

    C10100E?

I installed a C10100E about 6 months or so ago.
Im about 4.5-5km for the exchange so as you can imagine my connection is not "ideal".

I was not getting any drops out but i wanted a faster speed (Who wouldn't).

I was previously using a TP link filter which comes with the modems.

I saw next to no improvements from the filter. Just a afternoon and some meters of CAT5 wasted.Just thanking myself i didn't fork out $300 for someone to come and in
    it.

Really think it depends on your setup though. Just don't expect miracles.

Maybe try a isolation test first by removing all the phones and seeing if that helps your connection?

The C10100E is the standard ADSL/2 central filter/splitter Telstra install.

I've had great results with them, but as urban_s0ulja said, improvements in speed will depend on how your cabling and devices are currently connected.

Once you have one installed and the cabling is fully-compliant with ACMA regulations, at least you will know that everything in your home is as good as it can possibly be, then if there are speed issues, the problems will be elsewhere. eg: street cabling, exchange, ISP, etc

Thats the plan, eliminate the house side of things and then call them.

Thanks guys, i will buy the one off ebay, it works out to the same as getting one here without the travel and see how things go after all the phone points are rewired and the c10 fitted.

Tried the isolation test with no luck the other night, im getting a 1500 connection (adsl) on a 24000 plan (adsl2).

    Will do.

The modem and all the phones are getting new runs, modem is the first in the run and closest to the C10.

Will be using solid core Cat5e.

As an undate, i did the c10 central splitter, rewired the whole house in cat5e and the improvement was near nil.

When i use to contact iprimus to complain the blame was always placed on my wiring, this time when i called and told them everything's been rewired they gave up and told me the truth after threats to contact the telecommunications ombudsman.

The Somerton exchange was overloaded, they just updated it a week ago and speeds are now reasonable.

Thats one of the better tests too, others have been much slower.

Im still going to call them and have a go at them, i should have twice that speed going by my distance to the exchange.

Im also going to tell them to stick their next bill as ive been below the legal ADSL limit till they fixed their problem.

They shouldn't push ADSL2+ and take connections in areas that cannot support it due to their poor infrastructure.

I did the same added a C10100E and rewire the house, i am with primus on the Intense 20 Broadband 8000 20Gb, but i am 7.2 k's from the exchange so i am getting only a 1500 connection but hey i not complaining i should not be getting anything lol. but i notice no diff between my old splitter and the new one, but i have peace of mind now that my setup is high quality.

Will do tagg, i just posted in their tech help forum under the heading of Dead slow ADSL2+ (global88), going by the hits its got over the last 3 weeks, looks like its a common problem over here at the Somerton exchange.

If you have a problem, contact the telecommunications ombudsman for advice on where you stand.

    h##p://forum.iprimus.com.au/index.php/topic,3374.0.html (edit to http)

The C10 splitter did make a slight difference when fitted, obviously its one of the better units, point is i just wasted $160 rewiring and fitting because they refused to tell the truth and decided it was easier to blame the customers wiring rather than their infrastructure which was a well known problem to them.

    Useless dropkicks.

lol if you have go down the telecommunications ombudsman road you will not get far i can tell you that, Angus from iprimus handles all the TO complaints and can take up to 3 months to sort out, But iprimus is smart all they have to do is offer you a way out of your contract and telecommunications ombudsman will do nothing.

    Cheers and good luck

Just as an update they updated the exchange with a new fiber optic line and speeds have improved.

Still no where what others are getting but within Adsl legal requirements, the speed fluctuates all over the place.

This one of the better results.

    Ill see how it continues.

As a tip to others the ombudsman said that verbal agreements over the phone are not signed contracts.

Get out of the contract and switch to a better quality ISP. The cheaper ones are, well, cheaper but the trouble is they often don't supply what you pay for, because of network overloading. Peak performance in the dead of night may be fantastic but during afternoons and early evenings it can be atrocious.

The cheapies can be great if you're lucky to live in an area that's not overloaded, and if you're happy to trade off consistency of performance in return for higher data allowances. A few years ago there were quite a few people on Whirlpool Broadband Choice who were using (cough) Dodo because their heavy use plan was good value. But it's not good value if in practice it's so slow you only receive a fraction of the traffic you purchased.

Internode on the other hand aren't cheap but that's because they invest in the infrastructure needed to deliver the agreed traffic. They , at least not from what I've seen.

Primus are horrible in my experience. I've never regretted leaving them for Internode. But this was for ADSL1 as there is no ADSL2 available in my area apart for Tel$tra.

    Exchange is completely FULL
The exchange is out of MDF and floor space in the exchange. This means when the current providers are out of ports ADSL2+ will not be available.
Looks like you need to move to a less occupied exchange Godz lol!

Broadmeadows looks empty You just need to move down the road to Coolaroo...

They just put a new fiber optic line in a few weeks ago and probably have not updated the info yet.

Im in a good mood, the Mrs just told me tonight they took $50 off the bill due to inconvenience.

Besides, if i moved to Broady or Coolaroo, real estate values would drop. LOL
