    Default Drivers for Dell optiplex755

    Hello all,
i reformatted my Dell Optiplex 755 and i tried downloading the drivers for the various devised for the Dell website. I managed to get all the drivers except for a few of them.

I tried a different drivers but i cant seem to find the specific ones for PCI Device, SM Bus Controller in the ? "Other Devices" secton of device manager.

I took a screen shot and attached it of the device manager so hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction.

    Any help appriciated

    Thanks

Have you loaded up the Service packs after the reload, often this resolves device driver errors.

There are also tools that will attempt to show what unknown devices are, one called UnknownDeviceIdentifier (strangely enough) springs to mind.

Also for next time, there are tools that will backup all the device specific drivers so you don't have to hassle finding them again.

    G'day Slick1
you need the following drivers for your Dell Optiplex 755
    R164899.EXE
    R160238.EXE
    R162323.EXE
    R174616.EXE CHIPSET
    R228747.EXE

    search them on Dell's website.\
I would run the R174616.EXE that should update the PCI Device, and the SM Bus Controller.
let me know how you went.
    cheers.

Thanks for your tip there baseel. I had most of the drivers you mentioned installed but not the analog audio device driver. once i installed that, the unknown PCI was gone.

the chipset one didn't clear the unknown PCI but it did clear the SM Bus controller.

its strange because when i went onto the Dell website and chose the model i had, the driver for the analog audio device driver wasn't there. why would that be.

    Next question,
i got this dell because i want to ungrade the computer at my business. The Optiplex seems like a good machine. its small so it'll be a bit of space saver, 80gb HDD, 2 gb RAM, DVD burner. its primary function is to run childcare software and possibly some payroll software such as MYOB or something similar.

I have my home PC which has got 3 Gb RAM, 320gb HDD, ASUS MB, DVD Burner but its in a tower (Traditional Size).

i dont know whether to put the Dell at the childcare centre or put my home PC there.

The only reason i ask is if something fails on my home PC which will be running the childcare software, i can simply go down the a computer store and buy the failed part.

I dont think its as easy with the DELL, or is it?

Thanks for your help once again.

    G'day Slick1
I'm happy to send you all the .inf files from a working 755 pc.(size is 58 MB)
if you can find a site so I can upload them for ya.

the The Optiplex 755 is a business line product, means they are more reliable, we have couple of dozens of them on our network, they are on 24/7, hardly we have any issues with them(apart form power supplies dies from time to time).

the 755 are not that old model, and I would assume that yours is still under warranty
use the link bellow to check the warranty status for your 755

as for parts except the motherboard and power supply, all other parts are standard PC parts( SATA HDD, slimm DVD\CD, DDR2 RAM).

my advise to you is backup regularly, have onsite and offsite copies of backups, and believe me it's worth it, I have been there before.
    Cheers

Thanks guys for your advice. i managed to get all the drivers so i have no "Unknown devices" any longer.

I think i'll be using the Dell at the business.

As far as backups go, i've got Nero 9. THere is a backup function available. Is that any good? i can schedule the backups to happen at certain times of the day.

Also, i've got Symantec Endpoint protection installed. That should be o.k shouldn't it? i'd prefer Kaspersky but i've got Symantec Endpoint protection so i may as well use that.

    once again,
Thank you all for your advice.

    Regards
    Slick1
