    Default RedHat

Guys, would anyone know why I can't get rhel5 to run on my pc?
I complete the install without problems and upon reboot the system either wants to reboot over and over again or puts the monitor into power saving mode and just sits there doing nothing.

This has got me stumped as Ubuntu installs and runs just fine.

Did you check that all your hardware is supported?

    Actually no I didn't ....... I'd better check now.

Edit: There's nothing causing a problem as far as I can tell.

I had an issuse with ferdora core 10 (redhats free version). It would all install ok, then have trouble booting. My issue was the sata drives in the server I was using. I d/led version 11 and it worked perfect.

If it looks like it boots up OK, but its when xWindows starts, then it may be a video problem. I've seen that as well... xwindows works during intsall but not during boot. When I install, I tend to install everything, then turn off what I dont want. This way all the files should be there.

Last but not least, is the install disk OK. can you run the self check on it?

The install disk is fine, I have both the 5 cds and the dvd images and all pass the media test.

    I tried installing again today.
I can finish all the post install stuff and upon reboot I get a black screen with a few square pixels across the top of the monitor .... so it may be a video problem ???

If it setup, can you ssh or telnet to it? If so you may be able to get in and have a look at the xwindows setup.

If not, you could try alt+f2 and try a console login to check the logs.

    edit:

Have a read of this and see if it helps at all..

It may not be the exact issue, but might give you some ideas.

I had a similar experience while installing ubuntu on a system. The behaviour I'd get was that the install would go through just fine but upon reboot it'd barf.

The issue was something to do with the auto-detect being very difficult, or not fully possible - apologies for the vagueness as this was quite a while ago now.

The way I got around it was to boot the install media and go into recovery mode. I mounted the root disk of my system, downloaded different kernel, adjusted grub and booted. Again, this is vague, the suffix generic springs to mind. My system is currently offline, just sitting on the desk. Sorry, at the time I wasn't taking notes, as you do, and then you quickly forget as the system chuggs along.

    Hope this helps.

    Jim.....

WhiteOx, when you did the install, did you clear all the partition?
If it is graphics issue, do this:
    1. Boot your computer
    2. Hit any key on the keyboard to get to Grub boot screen.
    3. On the list of boot kernels, click E.
    4. You should see something like this:
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.30.5-43.fc11.i686.PAE ro root=/dev/mapper/vg_f11-lv_root rhgb quiet
    5. Go to the end of the line and add the number 3 so it reads something like:
    kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.30.5-43.fc11.i686.PAE ro root=/dev/mapper/vg_f11-lv_root rhgb quiet 3
    6. Hit ENTER.

This will force your RHEL install to go to runlevel 3, which is multiuser, networked, no GUI.

If it works, you should be presented with a login prompt.
If not, hopefully what's causing the install to fail would show up on the screen.

    Thanks jafar,
I followed your instructions above and can get to the login prompt so it appears to be a video issue.

    Ok,
I have Windows 7 and Redhat each installed on their own hard disk and this is what happens when I boot redhat and start the gui.

    Checkout , specifically

I know it is Fedora Core 10, but RPM Fusion does have repository for F11, RHEL, and CentOS
