Little to no chance, because of rights issues to a lot of programs. Many programs that are FTA in NZ are only on Foxtel in Aust, and vice versa in the case of Sky NZ. With sports rights its even more confusing. Can't see it ever happening.

A merger of companies doesn't necessarily mean a merger of all the channels and their content. Foxtel could still maintain seperation between the two.

Exactly. The entitlements on the card would be set accordingly.

I have a friend in NZ who tells me whats on there and he had to eventually connect to Sky NZ because programs previously FTA went to Sky.
When he asked why the answer was the FTA channel claimed the shows were'nt popular so they dropped them.
TV shows are sold like everything else and when the buyer isnt interested or another offers more when the contracts are being offered out then away it goes.
From what I have seen here neither the Govt or the ACCC are interested in the general run of the day programing but Sport is a different matter andthat has been the subject of much wrangling and back room dealings.
We had the ultimate Defacto coupling here with Austar, Foxtel and Telstra for several years being 'In Bed' with each other but because of the possibility a Public announced coupling would bring on cries of Monopoly, they kept the blinds drawn untill it was a case of everyone in the known world knew they were Bed partners, the eventual amalgamation finally took place as will happen in NZ in the 'Fullness of Time'.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
