I came out of this film thinking "Gee, a comedy without funny bits. There's a new twist!" I guess I should preface any further comments by saying that the last (indeed only) Wes Anderson film I saw was Rushmore and I thought it overrated. My opinion of Anderson's films is unchanged. I understand that he has a devoted following, I just don't understand why. I think his films either click with you or they don't; and for me they don't. And it's not that I don't appreciate subtle comedy, I do - I can see the jokes here, I just don't think they're funny.
I don't know why everyone is raving about the preceding short, Hotel Chevalier either. With the exception of Natalie Portman's bare butt, I see nothing particularly appealing there at all and I don't think it contributes anything to the feature.
This is the longest 100mins I've spent in a cinema for quite some time.
1 out of 10.

Gee, I thought I was the only soul in the universe who thought it was crap!
