Does the motor spin freely, if so It may be the BD chip.
Hi folks,
I have a PS3 and the spindal motor won't go. Laser works OK and relocates to correct position. Any thoughts?
Cheers

What would you do if your server was stolen or failed beyond repair?

If its the BD chip, replace that instead of the whole board
its a PITA to remove the nand chip and resolder it
Thanks guys,
Motor spins freely, so I"ll take your advice and replace the BD chip.
Where abouts is it located on the board and where do I get it from
Cheers
I should have them in about 2 weeks, along with alot of other goodies for the PS3.
If your in a hurry check out modsupplier
Please update the thread with progress, interested to see how yo go
Thanks for the replys,
I was thinking of changing the whole PCB that the BD chip is located on. It cost around $40, but it mention something about flashing another chip, not quite sure what there on about. Any head ups??
Change the BD chip,
you need to desolder the NAND and resolder it onto the new one if you are to change the entire board,Its BGA as well so not for the faint hearted, the BD chips are interchangeable.
Havn't really seen anything on flashning the nands, f you come up with any info please link.
Thanks
I should add that although the laser is moving, it does not mean that its not faulty. A faulty laser can also cause the spindle motor not to spin up.

More than likely its a laser(optic) issue....99% of ps3 faults are the optic & most times the spindle dont move an inch!
