    Question DGStation Mutant 200s

Noticed this receiver on eBay the other night - it looks good, and the seller claims it is superior to the dm 500s. Has anyone had any experience with this box? Can anyone say whether it is in fact better than dm500?
    Thanks in advance

    Default mutant 200s

i have mutant 200s and i have had absolutley no problem with it
I have noticed a lot of problems with dreambox dm500 power supplies ,lan
and front end ie tuner .personally i would stick with mutant or cube cafe250

I've owned both, which one is better, depends on your needs.

The Mutant has a couple more hardware features, Dual SCART, RF Output, but the software support isn't as good as the Dreambox.

    I prefer the Dreambox myself.

I have Mutant and had no problems at all. Go to and you will find all the software you need to run it like a Dreambox.

yeah I have a couple of DM clones and they have been working great as a simple and cheap receiver, but lately I have been playing with multiple dishes and they seem to be very flaky with regard to using Disec or 22K switching. For a single sat install i have found no issues.

Im also thinking of getting a relook 200 to play with...or perhaps the 250 which I believe is Hard Drive ready.

At least it wont be a clone and I can trust the tuner!

I have been looking around and the cheapest I can get one is $179, perhaps a worthwhile investment.

I checked out that denktenk site and it looks like you can run enigma on them, but I wonder if thats the best OS to run on relook? i.e stability etc...

Ashame about the serial port but I wonder if thats related to the OS that you run on it.

for example some of the DM clones I have run the Disec switching fine with different versions of enigma...strange but true!

I run Neutrino on my Mutant, very stable.
These boxes might not have all the bells and whistles the Dreams have but at the end of the day all you really want them for is to watch tv.
    Haven't tried the serial port.

The amount of third party support for a Linux based receiver should be a major factor before purchasing , and it would be hard to go past the DM500 for this.

I have 4 DM500 clones and havent had any problems at all. If you buy one from a known reputable seller ( there are several on here ) you are unlikely to have a problem and they do give you a warranty. I have owned a genuine DM500 I got from Dream Multiledia Australia , but it blew up

If you cannot use a white/gamma card in a Mutant at all ( ie , card reader wont work in the serial port ) , it would also lower their usefullness dramatically.

While I dont own one , I havent heard anything bad about them but I think all the above should be taken in to account. One other thing.....they are one of the ugliest looking receivers I have ever seen You may get overheating when you put the paperbag on its head

It's a hardware problem, not software related.
