    Default .mkv files and 5.1

Hey all, was hoping someone might have an answer for me, probably something small ive overlooked.

Anyway i have 2 new .mkv files, both are from Blu Rays and both have the 5.1 option however when playing though the surround sound system they will only play in stereo mode.

I am running Vista, have Sharks Vista Codec pack installed and have tried in Media Player and in VLC - in VLC you can choose 5.1 from the sound menu however the amp still says 2 channel stereo.

Is this an .mkv thing, a codec thing or am i being retarded as dvd and .avi files play just fine.

Anyone else ever run into this issue?

Are you using S/PDIF to pass the audio to the amp? If so basically everything is set to pass the audio without changing it ie

Open the config app that comes with sharks vista codec pack and ensure you have all the default settings in the audio tab, ie speaker config same as the output and AC3/DTS pass through for S/PDIF.

You may also need to check the ffdshow audio that you pass everything through it.

Double check that those mkvs are actually 5.1 AC3 using media info
