    Default Malware bytes won't run

    Hi all

Wondering if anyone has come across this problem with malware bytes......If I clicked on malwarebytes, I can update the database but as soon as I click scan it shuts down and when I click to open it again an error dialog box appears stating the following?

"Windows cannot access the specified drive, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item"

This is the first time malware bytes has played up like this, I downloaded the very latest version and still the same problem, the uninstalled this latest version and install v1.3 and still the same issue...

This same problem appears to be affecting Trojan Remover in the same way....only difference is I don't get the error dialog box, I can ipen trojan remover update the database then start as scan, but it gets a third of the way through a scan then closes down and won't open up again until I restart the pc.

I haven't made any changes, except when I connected the h/d that I have windows 7 loaded and used KIS2010 to do a full scan, it did pick ac ouple of viruses.

    any idea's anyone?

    Hi m8,

Try running malwarebytes from another computer and scan the suspect drive.

See if it picks anything up.

    Cheers

MMMM i have had a couple of Trojans where they wouldn't let malaware or other programs run

If you think its a Trojan causing your grief, the only way i got around it was to use Barte PE boot disk and did a system restore ran Malaware again and deleted the System Restore files and that did the trick

Ok, I've got the XP h/d back & looks like I've got the mongrel, definately was a trojan

I had a couple of trojan downloaders, a couple of adware pop caps plus the trojan that KIS detected for me.

I can now start M/B without any issue, and also trojan remover without issues.

So thisis what I had to do.

*its always handy if you have another h/d with a decent av loaded.
*I scanned the XP h/d via win 7 and picked up the first trojan.
*once I got tid of this first trojan, I was then able to uninstall both trojan remover & M/B on the XP h/d and the reload both these progs, update them and run them.

I hope this helps someone else in the same situation.

thanks all for your tip, as always much appreciated

mods....as this turned out to security related should this be moved to the apropriate forum
    thanks heaps.
