Which HD 1080p TV to purchase?

Hi,

Ok so these are the tv's i have in mind but still no sure which one to get???

Pioneer 50" plasma PDPLX509A
Samsung 55" lcd\led UA55B8000
Samsung 58" plasma PS58B850
Panasonic 58" plasma TH-58PZ850A

I saw the Samsung LED up against the Pioneer at a shop recently and loved the picture on the Pioneer as it was a more natural look but on the other hand the picture on the Samsung was more crisp, brighter and less pixelated but the colour and black levels were lacking. Not sure if the settings were factory and needed adjusting but didn't look that great than i thought it would be. I'm after something for fast moving pictures too...like sport, xbox 360 gaming and blu-ray movies.

I'm stuck and need help!!!

I have a TH-50PZ800A and highly recommend it....Great for fast moving TV, HD Movies and Xbox 360..Just be aware the large Plasmas will use 500 watts plus..

Plasma power usage his high, more than LCD on average, but not as bad as the specs sometimes suggest because consumption varies tremendously depending on the brightness of what you're watching. (Apple commercial = very thirsty, horror movie = economical.) LCD has plenty of advantages, especially the power saving if you have TV going all day or have brightly lit room, but for games and sport I think Plasma remains the best option.

The Pioneer plasmas have always been class leading with very little against them apart from price. If you can afford it then IMO buying the Pioneer is a no-brainer. It's had , like most Pioneers.

I have a 46" Panasonic PZ800A and love it, I'm really pleased with it. I haven't seen their 58" but if it's anything like their 46" and 50" then consider it a safe buy.

A quick google shows there are definitely some issues with black level in several Samsung models, a problem that's gone unfixed for a while, so I'd be wary of that.

Whatever you buy I strongly recommend you get extended warranty. Also, be sure to immediately call your insurer and itemise the TV on your home contents policy. Just because it takes two people to carry doesn't mean it won't get nicked. It'll probably be the most desirable item in your house for thieves, regardless of size and weight.

some great sets there, which ever you pick just as gw1 advised get ext warranty, also check where the warranty agent is and if they do in-home service

cause 58" is a VERY heavy set and wont fit in many cars

My choice is the Pana plasma, regardless of screen size.

Second, Pioneer.

The Samsungs have had some reliability issues.

Yes, they look great, but they are known to develop faults, making them less reliable than the Pana or Pio.

Well gr81, I am jumping on the Samsung boat, around this time last year I picked up the new (at the time) series 7 63 inch plasma, I haven't had an issue with it at all in that time, totally brilliant for blueray.The new series 8's plasma's now have the cool functionality of media 2.0, for pcless youtube, and a lot more besides.

I also recommend the Panasonic plasma have a 50 inch and am super pleased with it, and I did purchase extra warranty.

Seen the sammy 55inch lcd led today at a toffs residence connected to foxtel hd iq. It gave me pause, picture was exceptional.

to anyone who owns a panasonic, just be aware that they are absolute dogs to deal with as a consumer if something goes wrong. Would you be prepared to go to VCAT to get an item repaired under warranty? Would you like to have to wait for the sherrifs dept. to seize goods on your behalf to obtain funds from this greedy multinational because they refuse a warranty repair.
This i have seen from panasonic regarding the warranty of their products.

thats interesting you say that, we are a dealer and find them very good when it comes to warranty. the only issues ( as with any company) is if its not a manufacture defect such as power surges, user damage, etc...... remember the repair is as only as good as the service agent you send it to. All service agents are individualy owned and not run my companies!

Panasonic service is no worse than LG or Samsung and at least you have a better chance with a Pana not requiring service compared to the other two.
But of course, like any electronic device, problems can develop in any brand, just that some are more prone to faults than others.
