well, you can pick up digital terrestrial & foxtel on your N95 etc, winmobile and iPhone using Monsoon Hava over broadband.
An article in the 'Connect' pages of the Wednesday edition (14/10/09) of the Sydney Daily Telegraph announces that,
'Laser will be launching an Australian First into the market----a pocket digital TV. The three models in the range all feature an Intergrated digital tuner, along with an 8.9cm (3.5 inch) colour screen and an FM radio.'
Users can now tune in to their favourite programs anywhere-and even view an electronic program guide. The Laser portable digital TV's will be priced from $149.95.
Stay tuned for a review in the comming weeks'

My thoughts on this was depending on what type of antenna connection options are available, for the 'home installer' who cant pay $10k for a FSM or could use one even if they could, this MIGHT be a viable option.
It would have to be better than those so called 'Digital Signal Finders'.
What I did with one portable digital TV was to go to where I could pickup a good signal, tune in the TV then came home and worked from there.
This Laser obviously has a built in battery, my 16cm doesnt which limits its 'portability'.
Bloody primative but at the time it was the best I could do.
I like their 'tune in anywhere', a totaly ridiculous comment as we all know thats just not on but with an antenna in, AV in, just think of the possibilities.

how do you pick it up on a n95?
Glennsat, you have missed the point completely.
I meant this at a means to FIND the digital signal for your home TV which is something NO mobile will do because TV signals and mobile services dont come from the same towers and as MTV says, It doesnt have a DVB-T tuner to enable you to fine tune an antenna.
Also there are NO plans, no 12 minute blocks or monthly limits and NO excess fees to watch the TV.
don't need a terrestrial signal at all. Just broadband!
1gb a month gives you over 8hrs uninterupted viewing of anything your home box is tuned too. Box Office, Showtime, channel nine, a dvd - your surveillance system and all the satellite sources you are connected. Complete with remote control.

Saw a 4" pocket digital TV in JAycar a few weeks ago, $149. Thought about buying it, may go and have a better look and actually get then to demonstrate it for me?
1gb gives 8 hours , eh??
I watch about 40 hours a week, thats 5gb per 40 hours/week X 4 weeks = 20gb at satelitte rates as no landline B/Band available (wireless unproven here) at $50 for 4gb which = $250 a MONTH, every MONTH.
And over the years I have accumulated more than one TV set like many have so I and my family can watch what we like individualy.
Plus the mobile phone plan.....................
This little TV costs a ONCE only payment of $150 and cover the 5 channels applicable to MY area
My Abucus says the mobile idea isnt very economical nor practical or common sense.
Not all of us live in the '98% of the population coverage area for either wireless or landline broadband'.
There's quite a few of these small LCD digital receivers popping up these days.
Some (as mentioned) are making ridiculous claims of being able to receive anywhere, which reminds me of Telstra's ad campaign which they had to pull after they claimed their Next G service was available "anywhere you need it".
The little portable DVB-T tellies probably have the same limitations as their larger counterparts..... totally reliant of signal at the antenna, so unless you're in a very good signal area, you'll probably need to connect an external antenna, but, they could certainly be a useful tool in helping align antennas in the absence of a pro meter. If they have an AV input, they could also be used with a DC-powered sat receiver, for portability on a roof.
These will be seen around stores soon.. they are already being shipped out to retailers...
I had a look at one a few days ago.. they are pretty small but i didn't get a chance to test it... it does have a option to connect a external ant.
Your not listening Glennsat...
He want to pick up
It looks like this is a difficult concept for you to grasp.
He DOES NOT want or need TV via broadband, wireless or satellite.
His reasoning for this is very locical and explained above (i.e. - the cost of mobile and fixed broadband from his locality would be uneconomical and break the bank, however he does live in a FTA DTV TERESTRIAL footprint courtesy of his local TV transmition towers.).
He can not / does not want or need the kind of system you are using.
Reality is an invention of my imagination.
