    Default Select TV Box

I was give a Select TV box from a guy who used to have an activated card but canceled. Any ho I have been messing around with it. Found it scans in loads of FTA and has loads of pre loaded setting for every bird in the skies. As for my set up I8, C1, D1 D2, all good. Not surprisingly it won't run a White chucky or a silver aurora, but I can't get it run even a genuine Select card. Any one know if these boxes are locked to only one card as Fox cards are? I don't know the make and haven't opened it up yet either.

My understanding is that the box is married to the card until the card is activated in that box.

Once done you can use the box at will. It's yours ..... you paid for it ... but Selectv (understandably) want a few dollars from an active subscription first. Even when 'unlocked' it is IR2 only ...... so it won't run 'Aurora make overs'.

However it sounds like this box was 'activated', so perhaps my 'understanding' is incorrect.

It's like it's locked to the card that was originally in it I had my Select card in it for hours and would not up date but put the same card in a Topfield or Strong and it comes up in a minuet or so.

Maybe reflashing the box could cause a divorce? I know if I was flashed at my partmer wouldn't be happy!

194802 : Watching other channels using the SelecTV STB
    Reviewed: 8/5/2007

    Solution Description
The SelecTV Set Top Box (STB) is the most common type of Satellite STB used in Australia. You can use it to view satellite services of most satellites broadcasting TV services. If you want to view something on another satellite then you have to re-point your satellite dish and you will no longer be able to see SelecTV.

Any satellite TV service that is available Free To Air (FTA) on the Intelsat-8 satellite, should be available to you as well as SelecTV.

There are also 'other' encrypted services on Intelsat-8. These will require a Smart Card (and subscription) from the company broadcasting those channels. If they use the same Irdeto2 encryption (Conditional Access) as SelecTV, you can insert their Smart Card into your SelecTV STB and watch their channels.

Please note: if you insert another Smart Card into the SelecTV STB, you will not be able to watch SelecTV channels. To view SelecTV, you must have the correct SelecTV Smart Card inserted into your Set Top Box.

To see what services are available on the SelecTV satellite (Intelsat-8) and other Australian satellites, go to .
So according to Selectv, no problems. There will be a problem if the box was never activated to Selectv. So if you believe all is legit, get Selectv to unravel the mystery.

Strange maybe the cam is stuffed I assume it was working ok, it came from a guy that wanted help to repoint his dish to C1 and they were wanting to use an other card I figured it would be white in colour.
