My old lady has 3 x DM500c of them running at her place. They work fine.
You even pickup interstate 9,10 as a bonus.
I have some in stock if you need any.
I am a paying customer of optus cable TV feturing foxtel or "optusvision" and i am thinking of using a dreambox DM500c to view it. i was wondering is anyone has actually done this befor on the cable network (digital) and if there is any change in quality doing it this way. i find the ability to record over the network atractive.

Are the three boxes on one card via sharing ?
would the Optus smart card work strate in it or does it need to have some software loaded? aparently you can record to a hard disk over the network from this device, Foxtel IQ records the raw data to hard disk unencripted and then decripts it on the fly during playback. does this device do that or is it decoded so you can watch from the computer?
does your box come pre set for optus and foxtel so i can just plug in and go?
Yes, depending on the image loaded & it's emulators
Yes, if only the factory image is installed without the correct emulators
Yes, but that is a advanced function. Judging by the questions your asking, you still have a fair bit of learning to do before you would be able to configure a network share to record via cifs
No.
yes
It depends on the image installed.
My advice would be to go for it. They are cheap enough to play with.
Not much point asking more questions if you don't own one though.
Gado has them, I have a few in stock too. Your questions from above have been answered. All you have to do now is dive in at the deep end & be prepared for a few hours (days? weeks?) of learning, reading & research
