    Default Home Automation

    Just wondering how many of you have had a go at home automation have been searching the web for a while now and there is just so much out there and some of the prices !!!!!!
    As I am doing renos at the moment I thought it would be the perfect time
    Some of the units I have looked at are CLIPSAL, IQHOME, X10 ETC
    Even in kit form would be fine time is running out for me so your experience would really help
    What I would like
    1/ A stand alone control unit that plugs directly into the router and has at least 8 control relays this must have it’s own server which can be controlled over LAN/WAN

    This is what I tell all my customers, home automation is like leggo, you don't have to build the biggest and best you can just start off small and add to it as your budget allows.

    Home Automation Controllers now days have the ability to be logged into remotely via telephone (modem), internet (WAN) and even DTMF (MOBILE) etc.

    So choosing a controller would be ideal, as most of the tricky dick or jay car kits are specific to one application. Remember leggo blocks.

    There are lots of panels out there but I use the following only because it doesn't limit me to light control, and they are in Australia for support and warranty, as I build I can add later.

    With units like the above mentioned you can control;

    Security
    Lighting
    Audio
    Temperature

    And even to the extent of integrating all four to give your home that true Automation experience.

    For example;

    I leave to go on holidays for 2 weeks, the controller will switch off all non essential power to the house, arm the security system and randomly switch lighting to give the home a "Lived in appearance" while you are not there. All at one touch of a button.

    More examples:
