    Default Humax power supply fix

As there have been a few problems with peoples units of late i thought
i would upload some pictures and parts needed for their repair.

As you will see in the picture it shows the the C9 cap is showing as 1000uf this is a picture of a rev v1 unit and the rev v2 units use a 1500uf but they can both be replaced with a 2200uf v16 without any issues .These parts are available at most jaycar stores and are not very expensive at all usually all three parts needed amount to about $2.

It is not a difficult job as long as you take your time and make sure you take note of the where the positive and negative go.

Usually you will find that it is the C9 that has gone

    C07 33uF 50v 105°C
    C09 1000uF 16v 105°C - but can be replaced with a 2200uf 16v
    C10 1000uF 16v 105°C
    C13 1000uF 25v 105°C
    C14 1000uF 25v 105°C
    C15 470uF 25v 105°C
    C16 470uF 25v 105°C
    C17 220uF 50v 105°C
    C18 220uF 50v 105°C
    C19 100uF 50v 105°C
    C20 100uF 50v 105°C
    C21 1uF 50v 105°C
    R21 100 Ohm 0.3w
    ZD3 30v Zener Diode 1.3w

May as well add the power supply circuit to the thread as well.

Does this cap change fix the slow channel change, gamma card overheating etc?? Is C9 the only capacitor that changes in value??

    Thanks

The cap could cause all sorts of weird problems such as slow channel changing, slow turn-on/startup or as someone else noted in another thread, a ticking sound and not turning on, as it loads the power supply down. The overheating of the cards is not related. As for the values changing, im not sure what you mean, but you can safely use the higher value 2200uf cap as a replacement for either the 1000uf or the 1500uf cap.

In my situation 1000uF caps are the cause of a couple of other boxes power supply failures. So far Ive replaced stuffed 1000uF caps in two HDD/DVD recorders, a dvd player and 2 SD STBs. All were fixed with 16V 1000uF caps from Jaycar and are now running fine. All failures were rated at 10V.

    Default C9

Is there any reason why C9 is being changed to 2200uF? Any benefits in this?
Just a bit confused people are saying that 1500uF is ok.... or 1000uF etc... So I don't know why/how 2200uF came into it?? Is it more common to source or something??

    Thanks

1000uF = original cap in revision 1 boards

1500uF = original cap in revision 2 boards

1500uf caps are at times hard to source so that is why the 2200uf caps were tested and found to work very well and are more readily accessible.

    hope that answers your question

    Yep thanks for that......
My box is actually running fine... don't know how fast the channels are supposed to change... so I don't know if I need to do anything really?

Are you recommending for this Preventative Maintenance. C10 is also 1000uF... no need to change this to the same as C9?

Changing the capacitors is very good preventative maintenance - they will go crook eventually - quicker if environmental temperatures are higher.

Replacing those caps can save you the hassle of replacing a shorted Zener, and repairing the tracks on the PCB which can lift after the 100R resistor burns up.

(Depends on Revision Number of power supply etc.)

    Default Humax 5400 power Fix

I trying to fix my burned out power supply of the Humax 5400. I replaced C09, C07,C21,R21 and ZD3 Despite replacing them three times and each time the ZD3 30v Zener Diode 1.3w gets burned when I power on the Humax.
I could not find R21 100 Ohm 0.3w at Jaycar or RS Australia so I used .25w. Could that be the reason for the burn outs or something else. Can anyone help please.

I have a friend who has a 5410z that has a squealing power supply as soon as you turn it on. And it continues at same pitch for how ever long its turned on.
    Any ideas on a fix?
