Default Do not download Windows 7 from DigitalRiver

What a cock-up, DigitalRiver has stuffed up the student download files for Windows 7, you don't get a shiny new ISO file, just three files that are supposed to extract, after downloading it twice today ('cause I thought I'd stuffed it up the first time) I went looking and found this

what a bunch or rank amateurs

Macca I may be wrong but Double check your file/image (where you extracted to) is not in the "UDF" format as in most cases you can't actually see it and think you have done something wrong...

Download "imageburn" here and point to where you files should be and see if it picks it up then you will be able to burn an "ISO" image from that.

    Cheers

LOL why don't you all download the Windows 7 files from Digital River and just see what sort of c**k up they've done...and why would I want to know how to burn a Vista DVD when I've bought Windows 7?

    This may help.....

So you're a student who has taken advantage of the crazy upgrade deal from win741.com but instead of looking at a nice, shiny ready-to-install ISO of Windows 7, Digital River sent you a handful of random files and no ISO! Fortunately, it's very easy to turn them into an installable ISO! Follow this very quick guide to get Windows 7 installing right away.
Basically you need to get oscdimg.exe from here and unzip it into your system32 directory.

Then from the command line enter the following:
    Oscdimg.exe -u2 -bC:\<YOUR DIR> \expandedSetup\boot\etfsboot.com -h C:\<YOUR DIR> \expandedSetup C:\<YOUR DIR> \Win7.iso

Where '<YOUR DIR> ' is where you have downloaded the files.

I just registered here to say that if Macca had done any research at all he/she would have seen that the digitalriver copy of windows7 is perfectly fine.

@ssrattus -tried that well before I created this thread, yes I got an ISO disk and guess what, it doesn't work on the Windows 7 that I downloaded twice

Commbank will process a nice chargeback for me shortly, I'll stay with XP thanks.

    Hi,
not sure about what you mean "it doesn't work on the Windows 7 that I downloaded twice" ? I just made the bootable disk and I was able to go to setup from within vista and from booting the PC from this disk. I did not proceede with instalation (cancelled it) cause I want to do this later. What was exactly the problem?

    Cheers

LOL nice to see all my critics have actually d/l the files :P

I downloaded these files from Digital River:

    setup1.box
    setup2.box
    Win7-P-Retail-en-us-x86.exe
    DLMWin7Pro32AU.exe

when I run Win7-P-Retail-en-us-x86.exe to extract the two .box files it partially completes and I get an error message "Unloading the Box - an error was encountered - Unspecified Error"

It does however create a directory expandedSetup and a number of sub directories and files, including the setup.exe file which when run gives me the Install Windows Splash Screen with two options Check Compatibility online or Install Now. Install Now gives a further error message.

I've downloaded the Digital River files twice in case there was an error with the first download, but I get the same errors.

For those who doubt me, go searching for the problem and solution like I did before I posted here, no point in me griping if I can help others.

Given I can't fix the problem I thought it prudent to warn others that might encounter the same issues, certainly heaps of others around the globe have found the same issues I have.

Digital River has stuffed it up, at least for me, and have flicked me to Microsoft - as I can't actually get the Microsoft system to recognise my product key I got nowhere with MS.

    YMMV but that's my story...

and BTW I've tried every solution suggested in trying to create an ISO, including downloading more MS junk, and still I get error messages

if you do decide to use Digital River good luck to you

    Guys,
I downloaded the 3 files 3 days ago. I run the .exe file and all has been extracted with no problems. Had some reading how to do the iso and after few attempts I created working bootable image. If you want, I can put it on rapidshare and post the link here. Be my guest

It all takes, is how hard you try

    Cheers

Guy at work went the DigitalRiver path,.. downloaded the files and the exe wouldn't execute.

They've since made an ISO available to him for download.
