You can use ps2/ps3 cables interchangably.
A few common problems with the PS3
Post up the symptoms when you get it
I'm being given a 2007 model PS3 which I was told "doesn't work".
What common problems do the first run models have?
I'll be picking it up today so I'll know more then...
I've read somewhere that you can use the PS2 composite cable on the PS3 is this true? (I don't have a HDMI TV yet..)

i think the earlier ones had problems with the blueray laser wearing out as it was used for bluerays AND dvds , the newer ones have a seperate laser for bluerays and dvds as far as im aware.
correct me if im wrong.
ok got it.
Now what happens is this.
You have the red standby light, press the power on button, it goes green and then blue light flicks on then straight off , within a split second the green light goes yellow and powers off and the red light flashes.
There is no internal noises at all..
Any ideas?
ylod.
cwispy will be able to give u a hand.
yer yellow light is the same story as xbox with rrod.
Yep, needs to be reworked. Its almost as common as the rrod on the release models.
What would you do if your server was stolen or failed beyond repair?

I started to pull it apart..
It looks like its been dropped, the hard drive screw won't come out because its behind the plastic.
I've seen pictures of how its ment to look, and this one is sitting lower...
Might be terminal then.

I've pulled the whole thing apart now.
The hard drive is fine, spins up and is seen by my PC (Didn't do anything with the formatting)
There is no physical damage inside, It could be a micro crack in the solder. (the typical ylod problem)
I'm going to try the heat gun fix tomorrow, will let you know how it goes...
lol
goodluck
(I wouldn't waste your time mate, on the odd chance it does work and you don't cause any further damage to the surrounding components or warp the board, its not going to work for very long, those PS3's are a downright pain in the ass to get apart and put back together, get it fixed the right way first time around, play more fiddle less ).

If you do your research you will find that everyone who tried the heat gun method, has failed time and time again. So have most of the guys who are using ebay tools and currently fix 360's, not very effectively. I know that when I run a board through a profile, I am doing it right and not doing more damage than good. I really would not recommend that you do what your planning, get it done right.
