Thats an understatement I should have taken photos.

Well as I mentioned at the half way point it was going well. I loaded up with painkillers and pushed on and eventually got to the point where it seemed I couldnt get anymore out. I took a risk and belted a long sparkplug tube out of my beamer tool kit on to it and luckily got a grab on the plug and wound it out. Unfortunately , I also lost some rubber of the plug down the plug hole.

I chucked a new plug in and then realised that I didnt keep track of the firing order for the leads. After googling with the cap in my hand , I noticed they were numbered on the cap ( thank #### ).

Anyway , I started it up to a fair bit of smoke from the rubber plug being slammed up and down by number 3 piston , but it ran and there was no missing. YES ! I let it run for 10 minutes to make sure there was no problem before a test drive.

10 meteres down the street there was an enormous bang with some rather tragic noises coming from under the bonnet. I turned it off straightaway and put the hazards on and popped the hood. I had left a pair of pliers in there which instead of falling on the road , decided to lodge themselves between the main pulley and the body. No amount of swearing cursing and pulling would get them out so i decided to drop the belt. It was then that I found the alt belt has zero adjustment at all.

To cut a long story short , I got them out and had to use a scissor jack under the bonnet to lift the alt half a centimeter so it could go back on. I am now severely in pain , can hardly walk and have bad sunburn so I will be spending tomorrow drugged to the eyeballs on the couch

thanks for all the suggestions from everyone , I reckon I used all of them at some stage

+1 for doing stupid shite and not paying proper attention to things.

left radatior cap off my old camira and drove 1200km's....
left ratchet attached to belt tensioner on old falcon
left small screwdriver inside rocker cover on mates falcon.
reversed polarity on battery in camira... lol
    oops.

Fark I am sore this morning. My daughter drove the car last night on her L's and said the steering is really heavy. I havent had a look yet but its one of 2 things I would say :

    1. Pliers gouged power steer belt and it has broken

    2. They have no idea what they are doing when I asked them to put air in the tyres.

Hopefully number 2 , fark me dead , has anyone seen where the power steer is on these things ?

Nothing another handful of pain killers couldn't handle. LOL

Yep, sounds like the belt or air in the tyres.

Im too lazy to go outside now and take a look at mine but hopefully if it is the belt, you wont need to remove any others to get to it and the adjustment is on a pulley that's easy to get to.

Why couldnt manufacturers just stick to north/south rear wheel drive configurations to make cars simpler to work on?

know what you mean sanity, worked on sons integra last night fore about 45mins and my back was stuffed, he then said he wanted to work on the other side so i handed him the spanner and said "go for it", needless to say it'll have to do that this weekend

L5, S1 prolapse & stuffed sacroiliac, working over the bonnet kills me.
When I explained to the guy what avatar I wanted, that wasn't what I meant!

After driving around for an hour , I now actually have managed to find a belt. The old one appears to be hanging on but is shredded to bits.

Apparently this stunt also involves removing the front right hand wheel. cant wait

    Off to battle I go

Your kidding.....looks like to access the harmonic balancer. No belt tensioner up top? Maybe down low is where they put it, hence going from through the RH wheel well.

What a pain in the butt.

Look on the bright side, once its fixed and your Mrs keeps her eye on the gauges, it should run for quite a while again.

If it was a Holden or Ford you would be spending much more time under the bonnet getting acquainted with the car.

Done. The belt they gave me was the wrong one , it was slightly bigger. Although it wasnt much , it was enough to make sure there was no way of adjusting it tight because there was no adjustment left

In the end I did a dodgy brothers on it , pushed the adjuster all the way and put the bolt on the other side of it.

I thought the same as you Godzilla after a brief google but they must all be different. I dropped the alt belt , took off the right front tyre which allows access and the tensioner can be accessed there. They are either doing it the hard way or ours are different. This was definately the preferred option.

Hopefully this is at an end because I am absolutely farked
