    Default Tricky One ......GSM CCTV

    Hello Gents..

    Have a tricky one ...

Need to find a camera (quality not important -cmos is ok) that can connect to a GSM or 3G to send a pic upon request.

No internet available and it has to be cheap....multiple sites.

The idea is that I need to be able to poll the camera for 1 JPEG per month ....IE need to be able to connect to each site once a month and see a single image.

There is no telephone line or Internent, so the camera needs to be able to send the JPEG - only when requested - through some other means.

So basically a small cmos cam with a gsm sender - but has to be reasonably inexcpensive - irememeber a product called EPIC or something like that it was a detector that could do something similar..but I need a way to remotely trigger it - I thought about just a mobile phone set to auto answer and doing a video cal, but there must be something else???

This would have been just the thing. unfortunately cant find any updated details but keep trying, sounds like an interesting idea.

(added) found on the interweb also but doesnt exactly fit the profile and maybe a bit on the expensive side.

I am looking at building wireless CCTV systems for this particular reason.

    1. Solar Setup, Panel, regulator, charger, battery (all in one pole mount enclosure)
    2. NextG Router/Modem 5.4Mb/s (Awesome coverage nowdays)
    3. High gain Antenna (obvious reasons)
    4. Megapixel or IP camera with built-in webserver. (connected to NextG router/modem)

Log into cameras from any PC in the world, setup server to automatically log in and retrieve snapshot.

These are the NextG routers I am talking about, they fit in a IP66 Enclosure on DIN rail.

All you need is an IP camera and set the router up. You don't have to stream video, you can remote into them and take snapshots, or automate the process from a server end.

Take it from me Dan, anything with a Vivotek board inside (e.g. D-Link, Level One) is shite and WILL let you down.

The GSM camera that you are looking for does exist. I get ton's of manufacturers from China contact me all the time with that type of stuff, but it goes straight in the Deleted folder.

My question is - what is the difference in cost for your customer to pay for a monthly GSM plan compared to a monthly 3G plan ?

Here is the device our customers use in the US....

It costs around US$100, so with the mega strong Aussie $ - that's not too bad. The up-side is that it gives you more flexibility with the IP cameras that you can plug into it. It also allows for pretty much unlimited expansion as it has Wifi.

I know it's not exactly what you're looking for, but I thought I'd mention in just in case

At 8watts and rated to 70deg heat shouldn't be too much an issue.

Thanks for the link George, was looking for something like that for a solar power remote alarm panel.

1 or 2 100mm fans mounted inside the enclosure on the bottom with holes drilled out. Never seen it rain from the ground up.
